A hasp hinges from the opposite side, and a padlock secures the door.

The security features on this door appear to be an ugly afterthought.

Most likely to keep someone OUT. Since the glass is covered with the mesh on the OUTside. If it was to keep someone in, I would think they'd cover the glass on the inside.

I think it looks like the outside of a door. We once had a very old farm house. Only one room had a light switch the rest had pull chians and it was the only room with a lock on it, and it locked from the outside. Used to be my bedroom, but it was a little creepy...
