Graphotype

My father recalls using this machine to engrave names and addresses on small metal plates, used for filing and indexing customers.

I have one like it and i use mine for making tags for dog collars.
What do you think the value is on one in good shape?
id say around 100$
I used to work w. one back in the late 70s at an newspaper - we'd use it to make plates w. the subscriber's addresses which would in turn be printed on the papers for bulk mailing.
the only other time ive seen one of these not in use was at the met state hospital which has been torn down as of earlyer this year but the ctg unit which houses the cafateria and most of the wards is still standing and i believe it was in the records room directly under teh kitchen.
We have 14 of these machines you can review them in our history and information section at http://www.dogtagsrus.com - this is a graphotype 6341 machine it is sad to see it in it's present condition, that machine is a work of art.
The company I work for used to print law books back in the day. We have one of these machines in the reception area (Along with some other old printing machines). I had no idea what it did until now.
I work at an Army-Navy store in Massachusetts, we got the same machine in the back room. The boss paid a lot of money for it, something like $1000 dollars or so. The one in your picture sure would be good for spare parts...

I'm looking for a technical manual. Can someone help me with this?
bet you anything if you cleaned this up and plugged it in, it would still work. Sad when things like this get left behind

I work at an Army/Navy surplus store in Oregon, Ohio. We still make dog tags for the customers. The only problem with the machine is that it skips a single or multiple spaces as you are typing. If you have any feedback my e-mail is timothy_whited@owens.edu Thanks
I worked for a company that mfr and repaierd these. They also had a similar machine called ADDRESSOGRAPH. The last of these were made in the late 1970s

We have an addressograph and graphotype. Graphotype especially is in excellent condition. This one has a 191o patent date on it, and has a full cabinet of metal address cards with it. Email: jpsankpill@ussafety.com for more info.
I have the same machine and it is ashame that one has been abandoned.. Do you have any information on the matron that opened the school? My family is from that part of the world and I was wondering if there was any connection...
Just bought one from the U.S. military, Elgin Air Force base, FL. $175.00. It was store outside for who knows how long but a little cleaning up and its works. I have to replace a few missing parts, though. It was used to make dog tags. rcassin@aol.com
I hate pegboard, especially yellow pegboard.
i hate electric stoves, and rainy days
Hello, modern technology!
Heh, Msgt Mike. Did you google it and see if you can find the manual for the machine? Sometimes you can find old manuals for machines.
Good Luck!!
I saw a more recent photo of this on another web-site and it's barely recognizable now. Just a large pile of rust.
