I'd like to gather ALL the interested folks together to clean up the grounds. I DON'T get Poison Ivy :o)
Bring a Chainsaw , Tea & Ice...We'll all make the place look nice. By the time we are through Passers-by will say "Woo-Hoo ! "
This place would be alot better without spray paint.!!!
Stuey should rot there chained to one of the fallen radiators! Jerk
Blast! What the deuce? These vile vagrants have soiled my name! Simple vandalism is far too unrefined for the likes of me...
Hey, Stuey. If you are as artistic as you think you are, why don't you channel it into something more creative. Go to an art institute and get yourself a career where you can express yourself without being destructive. Vandalism is unsightly.
How come there's such little Puerto Rican literature?

Spray Paint wasn't invented until 1946!

I'm sorry.
could someone please call the janitor
somebody needs to call the historical society and get funding to fix up this wonderful looking piece of history and turn it into a muesum
Friends of Halcyon Hall attempted just that in the early 90's and were thwarted at every turn by various owners, the village, and a cabal of real estate interests who want the site clear someday for more obscene condos,
despite having won landmark legal victories to ensure its preservation. these people are a preservationists worse nightmare come true. incidentally this shot is from the projection room.
I HATE SPRAY PAINT!
Buy white spray paint because most walls are white and spray paint over it to match the wall. I actualy did this once to an abandoned complex near my house. Sadly the security guard had the wrong impression.
This looks like an awesum venue for outlandish stageplays & Hevvy metal shows put on by the near local & local performers.
Hi STUEY !

Signed: An American Soldier stationed in Germany.
i would die to own property like this. its fantastic
The 50's
In September of 1966 I sat in this auditorium, an unwilling freshman at this stupid, shallow, anachronistic debutant school (for girls who weren't very bright, but who were very rich and needed to be somewhere where they could attend "mixers" with all of the ivy league boys schools, so they could get their "ring by spring"-- the common chant at Bennett Jr. College in those days.) As I sat in my first "Assembly" in this very same auditorium, the then President of the college had a slide show of only 2 slides on the screen in this photo. He alternated the 2 single pictures back and forth, and back and forth. They were: 1. a photo of a chimpanzee , and 2. a photo of Timothy Leary. The President of Bennett Jr. College was informing the new students that Leary had rented the property adjacent to the college, and that anyone found on his property would be immediately expelled. That's where I ended up spending most of my 2 years...
This is the theater where they would show film series that would be unheard of in other schools. I saw my first Bergman film, The Hour of the Wolf- here at the age of 10. My folks also let me see Un Chien Andalou- Dali/Bunuel, at about the same age. Maybe I should discuss with them why it seemed appropriate.....Hehhh.
What a bunch of idiots...they don't have to do this.
I still don't understand howthey could just leave such a valuable property to rot
the stage reminds me of a part in a clockwork orange althought hte chairs weren't there in the movie
theres like 10 times more graffiti then that now.
U R the MAN been wanting to do this for 25 years- the pics R GREAT- many thanx
As for the flashing, there was plenty of it. This building was top notch in all construction practices. With all due respect to Mr. Motts and his wonderful pictures, there are many things that can't be seen. State of the art for its time - the reason it still stands as soundly as it does. If not for the vandals who have been in and out of the place for thirty years, the place would be in much better shape. Sadly, when the place closed, there were no funds to winterize the heating system or put any sort of preventative maintenance in place other than to board up windows, cover with tarps and hope for the best. There were a number of investors who were not encouraged by the local "establishment" early on. Now, at the eleventh hour, when the new locals are pushing for code enforcemnet, the village is hoping to allow housing that the old village infrastructure cannot support. The proposed development will be a pox on the landscape of the village. An eyesore? Yes, one that the village has brought on itself. Lead leaching into the soil from layer upon layer of old paint and asbestos poisoning anyone who dares to enter the place. Good for you Millbrook!
U SAVED ME A BIG FINE
Just looking at the titles of these pics...

How much you have changed and developed the view of everything!!!

It's amazing...
I grew up in Millbrook, and have always loved this building. No one wanted it to end up like it did. At this point, those that want to "preserve" the place, do not have the money or ability to do so. They have moved to the town in more recent years and want to "save" it but don't know how. So they blame development and evil village government. The building is so extensive and so damaged, the cost to gut part and "redo" it is in the tens of millions. The options for it are to either find someone with millions and millions of dollars to "fix" it...more like take it apart and rebuild it...or unfortunatly raze it because it is a danger. I will pray for the former. I'm so happy to see photos of the inside of this beutiful place I drove by every day, and also glad the photographer is out safely. It is a very dangerous place due to the damage.
can someone tell me who this timothy leary is? thank you
Lisa, Timothy Leary was one of the psychedelic drug leaders of the 1960's. He was into LSD. He was a very controversial figure. Just Google his name. He owned a place in Millbrook in the 1960's and he died in 1996.
stuey is a jerk..lol
hey- Stuey is famous- let him have his day
