I don't think I'd like an SSE...
Or an FUO...
Ithink I could stand some MT.
STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM MY GU!!! : O
What's finger to finger?
Not as bad as it sounds... it's a motor function test. Like finger to nose (while standing on a white line on the side of a road!).
Ahaha, I see "BM"... i remember an episode of Mr Rogers exploring the bathroom (we won't get sucked down the bathrub drain!) and he used "BM" for what we do on the toilet.
I don't think I'd like a UTI.
SSE sounds rather weird!
SD sounds tad worse
I'll have the Soap Suds Enema with some finger to nose on the side. Hold the venereal disease please.
Sosp suds enema?! oooh!!
OBS? oh my
Huh, I wonder why "nothing by mouth" is NPO?
NPO is nothing per ora, ora being mouth. Most of these terms and abbr. are still used today. although we don't use sse's anymore where i work... different enemas though.
An enema is an enema and the fact it has soap suds doesn't make it any better!! HAHA
they have actually updated that list our hospital has awhole new list of abbreviations that we can use, something about policyour good care to patients...;-P
"Soap Suds Enema"???

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?!
Y'all would be amazed at some of the so called treatments given in these types of
facility.
We use those abbreviations all the time. It is not nearly a full list, but it knocks out quite a bit with the exceptions at the top. I know that in the last year, SSE went out due to non use, QD went out due to med errors, and most of these got new ICD-9 codes. I almost never use letter abbreviations for conditions anymore.
I love being a medical student and data entry worker. Did you know we re-enter old stuff for companies, and if you had something go wrong in treatment, it gets labeled a "Medical Misadventure". This is seen mostly in surgical procedures and psych patients. The one we use the most off of that above list is ADL, though. Because you need your butt wiped more often than you need that enema =P
"Organic brain syndrome is a general term referring to many acute and chronic physical disorders that cause impaired mental function." Just in case anyone's wondering.
well holy shit no wonder they couldnt figure out what is wrong too many abbrev's...
Once you memorize them, it is quite easy to spit them back.
Anyone watching CBS has CBS!
Just kidding.
Organic Brain Syndrom;Senality; Pre-senile dementia;Alzheimers;Dementia, and sometimes Psychosis-all of these things were written on the forms at the nursing homes on the residents insurance form for the nursing home insurance company I worked for. I guess cover 'em all without wasting time on debates and politics.
The "SBS" is probably why most of the crazys' were there to begin with.
is H - K possible? its like trying to lick ur elbow lol
i hope im not an sz
We also gave a 3H enema. Which stood for High, Hot and a Hell of a lot. The soap is used to irritate the lining of the lower bowel which stimulates the contractions. High meant to insert the tube further than normal.
And that is what 37+ years of nursing comes down to at the end of the day............LOL
how do u get inside these places.. the security is like all over!!
oh ya i need some mt right now
Lynne, where are you when we need you?
BM? Now that you mentioned it, I gotta go to the bathroom BAD!!!!!!
I'm sorry Motts, but I don't believe "ABBR" is on the approved list!
I recognize some of these from my days working at an outpatient psych clinic. ADL's....noooooooo...LOL
...and from my days working as a pharmacy technician...!
i found an old nurses daily journal behind an old hospital i was exploring and it comments on alot of patients with these same abrev. Couldnt figure out IC in the context it was written, thinking it meant intensive care, soooo , intermittant Claudication, thanks motts!
You got locked up for having PMS? gees lucky i wasnt around then!
