Wow and all that peeling paint...I sure hope you had a mask on Motts....not good for breathing thats for sure....Those open doors always scare me....like someone will run out at any moment. Just think of all the patients that once called this place 'home'. Kinda sad too. When you think about it all....

there are a multitude of factore that make paint to peel. Heat, mositure, poor preperation, incompatable types of paint over another etc...

I think those doors always stay in one place when opened, isnt that right Lynne? Paint will peel if latex is painted over oil paint, especially if it gets damp.

The paint peels because there is no regulated temperature any longer...oil paint reacts with oxygen in the air..oil paint never stops curing & as it ages it continues to oxidize therefore becoming more brittle and typically the resins in latex paint are too big to seep into anything ... i guess in my stupid college classes jargon, no paint is permanent . OH GOD, i still remember the=formular for a redox reaction = c6h12o6 + 6o2 = 6co2 + 6h2o. Motts, im a dork.
