This is an old freight elevator that I used to ride in with my dad when I would go with him weekends sometimes to work. It was cable operated and the cables went through the "car" itself and had to be pulled to get the elevator to start.

Reminds me of the movie Oscar and Lucinda when Ralph Fiennes dies in a glass house that has been hauled up the river. Does anyone remember that scene or the move? Beautiful picture.
