I've noticed that operating rooms are usually located on the upper floors in many hospitals, however these were on the first.

They're often placed on the same floor as the surgical ward and such, for ease of transport. At least that's the case in every hospital I've worked at. :)

at Severalls the theatres are downstairs and the surgical ward is upstairs. they had lifts tho. apparently they used to take surgical cases from the general hospital just across the way but i don't know if it was designed with that in mind...

This reminds me of the new House on Haunted Hill, where the girl with the camera looks through the camera and sees a surgery in progress. I'm waiting for the staff to look up!

They also built them with a outside wall so that if the operating room exploded due to the flammable anesthetics that they used at the time, it would blow out the outside wall and not intrude into the buildings.
