Guard Tower Panorama

The blending on this panorama didn't turn out very well, but this 180° view gives you an idea of the scale of half the prison.

this place is massive
it is gigantic , who would have thought
its a jam packed place inside the walls thats for sure. My wife is a detention officer, and she talks about the walks they have to do every 15 to 20 mins.....this place would driver her crazy! she walks about 10-15 miles a day in some of the jails we have here they figured it out when some of them got pedometers...I bet it would double at this place!
Hey Mr. Motts you said this was a guided tour? how long did the tour last?
you stil did a good job motts ....it still shows you how big it is
Love the Guard Tower and the Gray Clouds behind the buildings.
The tour lasted about 2 hours... I definitely would have liked to see more, but unfortunately we were denied access to a number of places due to liability and safety reasons.
AWESOME! :)
That house looking structure to the very far right looks interesting to explore!!!
I wonder why the center building has so many sky lights - especially compared to the other wings
Very big, lots to explore here.
and many places to hide if you were an escapee
Amazing.
Neat! The bars look ghostly & transparent. What is the brown building all the way on the right? It looks like a house.
I believe that's the laundry building, where the top floor served as an auditorium, chapel, and gymnasium. A closer look here: http://www.opacity.us/..._projector_house.htm
I spy another abandonment in the distance, can anyone spot it?
Someone really let the place go. Its a mess.
With all the building more buildings inbetween buildings... It isnt clean cut like most prizons at all.
I would get so confused... and lost.
I love how you can tell which of the buildings are original (shorter, more run down looking, more skylights) and which of them are newer construction shoehorned in between
The interior walls are several feet thick.

The outer wall goes down into the ground almost as deep as it is tall.
Superb. Great shot and this panoramic setup is a nice idea.
I'm a Detention Officer for Anne Arundel County, and seeing these old abandoned places makes my skin crawl. I couldn't imagine working in an environment like that, crowded to almost twice its capacity. On the main page you said this place had a capacity of ~3000 but held over 5000 in 1970s, we only have 700 right now and we're pretty close to capacity. Crazy difference between state and county level prisons.
there is so much to this place. It remindes me of Rose Red.
looks neat how you can compare an old structure to newer ones in the backround.
MOtts so this place is in Philadelphia?
Surprised it hasnt been renovated at all
Motts,
Longtime lurker, first time poster. This is awesome and the blur makes this photo complete. The blending between new and old is fantastic. Love the shots.
Yes, Trevor. I was there on Saturday morning.
