In the center of a bustling community lies a dormant fortress... although the facade of the prison was medieval, much of the interior resembled a monastery due to the old Quaker ideals that were set forth in this prison's design.

Motts, you should win SOME type of award for your amazing and breathtaking pictures. You breath a new form of life into these old, abandoned places and your comments always add to the mood of the pictures. Well, I am really surprised to see this.
Not that Eastern isn't worthy of being featured;;it certainly is.But rather I considered that it technically and officially does not have an "abandoned" status.It certainly was for a time and it looks it.
But Eastern is too solid and too important to knock down.When I was there (visiting,heh heh)about twelve years ago('95 or '96) they were looking for ideas then as what to do with it.But it looks as if tours,Hallowe'en events,history studies etc. have prevailed and as long as they make some money on it to restore it thats' fine with me.

Wow! What an amazing place! It you ever get out to Vancouver (British Columbia) there is a place called Riverview Hospital that you would LOVE! Gives me the heebies every time I go by it , lmao!

i love the angle you got here. it would make the castle seem even bigger than it really is. plus it just looks cool the way the vines creep into the window.

Hi, everyone!!! I was here just this morning, around 10 AM, just before they opened it for the day. I took some great pictures, but I didn't go inside(my dad's too scared).
