Capone's Cell

Capone's Cell

The infamous gangster Al Capone spent eight months in this cell in 1929. The Philadelphia Daily Ledger published reports of his stay being quite luxurious in lieu of his fellow inmates.

His former cell looked much like the others by the time ESP was abandoned, but Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site, Inc. created a reconstruction of it in 2002, and is viewable to the public.

wonder if he hid the gold from Geraldo in here
I wonder if he's still around....
i wonder how did it compare to martha stewarts cell .
wow! It's awesome that they "preserved" this major piece of history.
thats cool!
VERY NICE! CRIME DOES PAY.....NOT!!!
I won't mind staying overnight there. Perhaps something revealing might appear in my dream. Like, where he hid his safe at.
Thats crazy!
Thanks for this shot!
wow, his stay must have been so uncomfortable, lol
yeah no luxurys or nothing for al
I would love a closeup of that painting. It looks almost like a Picasso work. What is that in the back wall? A Radio?
world's "fanciest" cell!
Very lavish furnishings. Tastefully decorated. Wallpaper?
Al Capone is one of my heros. I wonder if any of this furniture is original. I also heard he left here because of the ghost or "black figure" would always walk by the cell.
one word....WOW !!!
just fix the walls and floor I could live in that!
Al Capone (January 17,1899 to january 25,1947) obeyed the pater familia to take a hit and lay low by going to prison on an easily accessable weapons charge after the St Valentine's Day massacre although I don't think staying here was a pic nic.
Al died riddled with syphilus in quiet retirement (not prison) in 1947 after turning 48.
Why not just leave him mints on his pillow as well? Haha!
Not yet dying...

Amazing shot!
Damn. That's even better than my house!
i wonder where all his stuff went to? it would be awsome to find!
ha this is so cool. i love that old kind of furniture. i love those kind of rugs. and lamp shades.
the whole luxury of the cell thing reminds me of Good Fellas
Absolutely amazing. Incredible shot. Everything just looks so pristine.
Kurt: yep, it's a radio. Usually ones this big had record players built in, too.
See? They seem to have taken the bars away from some of the cells, but they didn't take anything away from this cell, and there are some pretty nice things in here too! And are those lights on? Could you just flick the switch and turn them on? If so, kinda weird!
cuz hes ganster
that's nicer then my bedroom and bathroom put together
Didnt ghost hunters visit here?
awsome shots motts
You are sentenced to six months in prison with no DVR!
Yeah Ghost Hunters (TAPS) did investigate here twice. On there first visit they got a video of a shadow man walking around. Second time, I don't think they caught much.
You can get a pretty nice cell" with a kind word and a gun."
I have a radio that might be the model Mr. Capone used. Does anyone know exactly what he had?
Capone is dead btw. Motts was this in the prison or what
eastern state penn is the 2nd most haunted place in america
This cell stands out from all the other cells in the prison
Ghost Hunters TAPS did 2 investigations there. Yup, there is still power. I know you weren't there at night Motts, but did you happen to experience anything paranormal?
I wonder if that stuff is in a museum somewhere?
The red adds a nice touch of color.
my husband's great-uncle Shooey Malone arrested Al Capone!
I think this would be a place to stay the night and see what all you hear and poss. see!!
I have that exact desk in my home. My husband got it from an antique dealer around 25 years ago. I wonder if it was Al's? It was in great condition but I used some Formbys stuff on it to recondition it. It is pretty awesome like the picture here.
Visited in sept. Glad I took the self guided tour. Historical ,Yes. Haunted, doubt it.
awesome shit
I have GOT to see this for myself!!!
I found one of these book cabinets in a thrift shop in Erie, Pa. I had never seen the cell, but I KNEW it was a FIND!! :) It's SO cool to see it in these photos!!!
love that room for many reasons but can say its for me to know and you to find out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why would Al ever want to leave?
Dis Capone's son deadly!! Italoamericano the brave seller! Him cont. Or de room count its dreams up to now.... All and for all him be part of the people who strived to the heights... Blessed Alberto Capone....
IF YOU GUYS WATCHED THE EPISODE WITH T.A.P.S THEY WERE TAPING ONE PARTICULAR HALL BUT THEY WENT TO LUNCH WITH THE CAMERA THOUGH RUNNING THEN LATER ON THEY WENT TO WATCH AND LISTEN TO THE EVPS FOR ANY STRANGE OCCURANCES AND IN THAT HALL THEY CAUGHT A MAN AT LEAST THAT IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE COME OUT OF A CELL CROUCHED DOWN WEARING A LONG BACK ROBE THEN GETS UP RUNNING DOWN THE HALL...VERY CREEPY INDEED,YOU CAN GOOGLE IT TO SEE IT.I THINK IT LOOKS LIKE THE GRIM REAPER
I didn't see it but I WAS at ESP today!!!
That is the nicest jail cell I've ever seen!
Ah, more ghost doubters. Eastern State is definitely haunted.
There are three lamps and a radio in that cell. What I'm wondering were did all of the outlets come from. There is one light on the upper right wall. I pretty sure they did not have outlets in cells way back then. and if they did it would take a three prong socket or two extention cords to operatate all of his stuff. It looks good . But I think something is fishy in Denmark.
That little statue head, on top of the radio, it's a copy of Michelangelo's David.

The man had good, classical taste.
awesome picture! The furniture looks amazing like it hasn't been that long since it's been used.
I love this shot!
and the lights still work?
dis is a nice cell wish i had one when i went in
