Holy Ghost

Holy Ghost

A number of murals were painted on the walls by an anonymous inmate in the 1950s, and have been stabilized for future restoration.

isn't it weird that the paint around the mural is so bad, but the paint in the mural isn't?
Fine art paint probably doesn't hold up to the elements like the thicker paints used on walls... it is also likely the walls were given a new coat since the original paintings were made in the 50s.
hhmmmm very interesting .
absolutely amazing!!!!!
it does look a little odd that the pain on the walls is peeling and not the pain on the mural...im sure it is because of a difference in the type of paint, but it almost looks like someone peeled the paint away to reveal the mural beneath it... if that makes any sense
Im glad that mural has survived although worn.
This inmate had some good skill. Must have been cool for an inmate to paint pictures in the prison.
maybe its a miracle!
"and have been stabilized for future restoration."

Not quite a miracle...
They may have cleaned it up since, but sheets of plaster one inche thick HAD come down from the ceiling almost everywhere. For that reason and others hard hats were issued,( "it could spoil your day")and that is one sad memory I have:the one issued to my son who was about 12 at that time was oversized and was falling in his eyes.If I had known that I would have brought my own hard hat,as these were dirty.I tried to disinfect by putting paper in the head band. Also I should have tightened the inner band adjustment.Instead it was a distraction for him and I regret that memory. Many people took thier hardhats off and were using them to sit on.WE should have done that.
i wonder what kind of paint they used to paint that. seems to preserve pretty well. i need some of that.
Beautiful
I bet you could sell that for a lot of money considering you found it in an abandoned building.
Oh nevermind, I take that comment back :-)
This tells you how much they needed jesus in there
Creepy thing to say, brooke.
Note that Motts says the murals were stabilized. This means that a substance was either put over or injected into the existing paint to keep it from further deterioration. It works like a glue. It is time consuming and expensive to do so it was probably only done to the mural
That's magnificent. The artist has talent.
