It that tree is moving those tombstones like that just think of what's happening to the caskets underneath....
Great fertilizer makes great trees.
why would you ever plant a tree between two tumbstones? or viseversa? ahahha that's bad thinking
We see that around here all the time too, often tree seedlings just start up wherever they like.
Frost heave!
i can only imagine whats going on underground.... disturbing really. but great shot none the less ^^
I wonder if it made them roll over in their graves?? (sorry) lol
*Gasp!* Amanda! Bad girl! :P

Great shot, though... intriguing, it is!
Things grow
At our local cemetery there are many trees, and some of the most expensive plots are the ones underneath (the most expensive are the ones looking over the ocean).

Although the majority of graves are marked by a flat slab, to prevent them from falling over the cliff onto the beach during storms (which has happened) I can only imagine that one day the coffins will end up being pushed up by the trees and their roots.

As a side note, yes the coffins have fallen over the side onto the beach. My earth sciences teacher told stories of going there and studying the coffins and large grave markers when the storms would hit.
ohgeez . i dont want to see what those tombs will look like in like 2 years .
This shot helps me find hope
Maybe one day I can take a trip and visit this amazing place
Just God's way of acknowledging the rift that was always there.

:-)) Depends on many wires they had in them holding that "Peaceful" position when they staged the bodies. They are probably wired for a 100 mph crash.
Death is not the ending ,but a new beginning.
In the cemetery down the street,
a large tree has grown into the
two stones on either side of it.
old stones like that usually get worn down and break but ive never seen anything like that
If it is like my G-Grandparents graves, the caskets were wood and would have decayed long ago. The tree would absorb the remains, bodies and caskets alike, and they would in turn feed the tree. In effect the tree has become the living representation of the deceased. What a better monument to have.
my thoughts exactly amanda f lol
I agree, Prairie Lady. I wouldn't mind becoming an Oak Tree someday. It would be extra cool if that tree was between my wife or girlfriend and I and was feeding off the both of us. Then, we would truely be one. :)
i also agree with prairie lady if i die i want something living to be there from me i want somebody or somebodies to remember me
how long was this place abandoned exactly like i dont really understand why a graveyard gets abandoned somebody has to have an ancestor there the person in that picture died in 1921 it couldnt be that incredibly old right?
wonder if it was a husband and wife
would make sense if they were married
My grandpa has a grave next to a tree...guh.
These cemetary shots are beautiful, the snow just makes everything more majestic, and peaceful. :)
Charlie, you are SO bad! ; )
I wouldn't mind sharing an oak with you, Dawn. lol Must be incredible to be there on a winter's day. The snow just adds to the charm of the place.
I can read the name Ella Wright. Didn't stick around, did she?
