Furnace

The old chapel was small and full of folding chairs and maintenance equipment; luckily the crematorium was intact. The building was being supported by planks of wood such as the one on the left, and was in pretty rough shape.

There were two double doors, each leading to a kiln-like brick oven. Above the entrances were decorated with marble slabs and woodwork.

I would be afraid the building would cave in on me
Any word on restoring this wonderful place Motts? Or is it going to be another tragic loss of such a incredible piece of architecture?
so, anyone want brick oven pizza?
Must have been spectacular in its day.
*seconding, thirding and agreeing with Lynne*
Wow, I hope this place doesn't rot away to nothingness. :-(
Brick oven pizza...thank GOD I wasn't EATING just then... : ) .... What an amazing place!
I wouldn't stay in there for too long.
gutsy shot
Sweet!

LOL @ Krow
love the old marble about the doors. shame to see it rot away like that. great picture!
For some reason I can hear Mozart's requiem in the background. hauntingly beautiful.
Really quite interesting.
If I didn't know what it is
I could swear some one
would tell you
"I'll be down with your books
in a minute"
I cant imagine that this cemetary would be allowed to go to ruin. It's way too important historically and there are quite a few famous people here. The chapels and cremetorium are cited in historical landmark books. Too many restoration committees around here to let it happen.
"Disco Inferno"?
Looks like some play or something would have been performed here 50 years before.
This place would take some work to repair, but none-the-less it can be fixed!
Bello y triste cementerio...
it looks like a really cracked and empty version of that blokes bedroom in strangers hall, norwich.
hrm a cremetorium and wooden posts to hold the structure up not such a good idea!
