Corinthian

Looking up towards the ceiling; I believe there used to be a large skylight there when it first opened.

why would you close off a skylight? I always wondered why some places do that
It probably leaked a lot Joe. Remember this place was built over a 100 years ago. I think I would leak too if I live to be over a 100 years old.

That ceiling looks to be in remarkable shape. I really like all the gold in it.
that is true Canada, never thought of it like that. When I lived in Rhode Island, our DMV was in an old bank and I remembered going into the bank when I was a kid and the ceiling was all skylights. I use to love going in it when it rained or snowed. Now its been covered over with plywood and old tarps, but I can still see the skylights in my minds eye
Ow....my NECK!!! Love that shot Motts!
I would imagine that there are lights behind the panels. That seems to be the norm. Great shots!
i remember my grandfather took me to an old train station here in pittsburgh a few years back. it hasnt been used as a train station in a long while but has restaurants in it now. he told me that the skylights in the building were once covered during one of the world wars. i dont remember which ww but he said buildings that were at high risk of being attacked during the war boarded up their skylights, i suppose for saftey reasons. just an idea.
@joe

Also many skylights were covered up for energy reasons during the 70's. An astoundingly huge number of buildings were butchered to lower heating costs during that period.
Awww.... missing that skylight... would've made or great ambience...
i think skylights are amazing .
why would they cover it up ?

ohwell . great shot .
Reminds me of the post office in my hometown, actually it was built around the same time as this hotel.
look how good it looks now...but think about how elegant it looked years ago
Someone is going to peek over the edge at any minute!
you almost can't tell if you're looking up or staring down.
