Emergency

Emergency

I found this sign interesting for the tornado warning (being from NYC), as well as the warning of escapees from the forensics area as well as the nearby Huron Valley Complex.

Well , if there was a tornado close enough to sound a warning for, by the time they could figure out if it was a disaster or tornado, they'd be fucked .
I amused by the fact that the only way to tell the difference between a Tornado warning and a Disaster warning would be to count or keeping checking your watch.
ha yeah, having to wait 3 minutes with a siren blaring, musta been scary. Does MI get a lot of tornadoes?
Escapees? LOL
Last year we had 26 tornato in Mch with 3 deaths and 9 injuries the last tornato was in 10-20-07 the sirens and news report as soon as soon as they can if they think it's coming they stay on and tell where the tornato could be headed.
"Oh no, a tornado! We'd better - wait, it's okay. It's just a disaster."

:)
its crazy how paint peels off walls and tiles fall but this sticker is still standing
What happens if you're not near a sign? How the hell will you know what to prepare for?
If i hear the siren, i wouldnt wait to see how long it went on, i would just run for cover from whatever the hell was coming, lol
Five minutes of continuous siren would be a disaster in and of itself.
i gotta go with stacy on this one, If I hear a siren, Im gonna run and ask questions later. I realy cant see anyone standing around for a minute to see if its "all clear" esecially if i had a nervouse disposistion. and yup ,that realy must be some good glue holdin that thing up there. AWESOME JOB MOTTS! AS USUAL!!
I hope somebody memorized this or kept a cheat sheet with them at all times! We never know what you'll share with us next! Great photo!
i agree with stacy, hear the siren, run and ask questions later. but it is also amazing that the sticker is still there. good work motts!
We have signs like that all over the plant I work in, minus the escapee warning. Though considering some of the people who work there....
Aside from the Disasters differences in length, can you imagine listening to a siren for even two minutes straight? That must of been fun for the patients.
If you ever lived where spring = tornadoes that siren would quickly become your friend.
Thats seems like an awful lot to have to keep track of.
I wonder whats classified as a 'disaster'.
If a tornado were to occur and you thought it was a fire, it may be safer to ask questions then..
What's the warning for a flaming tornado of escapees?
That would truly be a disaster.
What is a forensics escapee?
Forensic psychiatrists work with courts in evaluating an individual's competency to stand trial, defenses based on mental diseases or defects (e.g., the "insanity" defense), and sentencing recommendations. There are two major areas of criminal evaluations in forensic psychiatry. These are Competency to Stand trial (CST) and Mental State at the Time of the Offence (MSO).

My educated guess?

So, if someone is being evaluated for court after arrest, they would be more of a threat and the staff would probably get a faster response time from the Police to re-capture the "Forensic Escapee".

-Hope it helps.
Forensic escapes???
lol
Some of the above comments are hilarious, especially the first one! We havea huge mental assylum that was abandoned in the ealry 90s in NOrth Wales which I thought was huge, but this place is MASSIVE (plus we dont get tornadosin Wales lmao) Fantastic account and photos. Keep up the good work!

When I was in grade school in the Midwest in the 1960s, we were taught to recognize the difference in the tornado siren and the civil defense ("air raid") siren. The tornado siren was a continuous modulated blast and the civil defense siren was intermittent--short blasts kind of like a very loud "busy" signal on the telephone. For fire, they used the school's regular alarm bells/buzzers. We had periodic fire, air raid, and tornado drills throughout the year. I now live in an area where a "disaster" siren would mean a leak or explosion at one of the chemical plants or on the railroad, and we do "shelter-in-place" drills as well as fire drills.
That'd be complicated to remember.
Yes, amandalee88...LMAO... I suppose it can sometimes? It does look funny. Thanks for the 'Chuckle'.
Nice photo. I wouldn't mind having that sign for my room lol.
@ Steam Power (though the comment is two years old haha)

I live in Ypsi, and grew up near here. From what I was always told, the Forensic Center was for people who had been declared criminally insane. They actually ended up building a HUGE new replacement for this right across the street (the old property is now a Honda plant).

It was always kind of scary living near here and the Huron Valley prisons (men's and women's). Every once in awhile you'd see a whole crap load of cop cars out, and hear a helicopter...and you knew to stay inside and lock your doors haha.
Uhh....I too would just RUN MY BUTT OFF and wonder what disaster it was later! :D

Can you imagine someone stopping and reading the sign...ooh wait...its a tornado? NO FIRE...no...ah heck just RUN!
