There's also a couple of pizza ovens still here. The large bread ovens were made by the guitar-amplifier company Marshall when they still made non-musical machinery. The original Marshall logo is riveted to the front and it mirrors the one on the front of the amp.
Radical Ed: you seem to not only enjoy hanging here, but also learning its history. Thats nice. I'd love to go through there.
yeah IF you like inhalin absestos and other harmful stuff in that place just for a cheap thrill.
well at least someone has balls enough to bring us these amazing photos...........THANKS GUYS
Growing uo near Byberry and hearing the stories always intrigued me to visit. But thanks to your photos, I am safe right here in front of my computer
yeah i want to visit but some of my friends were chased out of there by a bum with a knife and there were 18 people that went with her , and also this kid went in with a friend and the friend has yet to be found do u think it would be a bad idea for me to go in? i want to so bad , are there lots of afterlife and paranormal experiences there?
That smacks of bullshit to me. Bums don't live here due to the intense amount of traffic and the heavily armed explorers that don't take kindly to knife-weilding vagrants. You can't really get lost either due to the thousands of open windows, doors and blatantly hammered-through wall holes. When the sun comes up, a quick exit is just yards away.
Ed, is there a remote poss. that there are some stray vagrants in the warmer months?
The only vagrants I've ever seen in my more-than-20 years of byberry exploration have been friends of mine or young explorers I've never met. No bums, really. Others say they spotted them now and again but not me. I've seen remnants of the homeless there, but they were always long gone.
Damn! You've been doing this for 20 years! Wow!
Awesome link to Thomas Jefferson University's Online Library. Pics of Byberry from roughly 1936-1945 if anyone is interested. It's creepy to see how alive this place once was.

I bicycled past the old "E" buildings when I was a freshman in High School, and decided to check them out with a few friends. I graduated High School in 1986. That makes it 23 years really.
Joe, thanks for the fantastic link to the old pix!
Wat segestions do u have for me and my friends to go into byberry for the first time .And wat should we watch out for
Go to Goddg's site at :

You'll find what you're looking for there.
Radical Ed, I'd love to see a pic of the Marshall logo if you got one.- Ed from Oregon
Email me at radical_ed@yahoo.com for that pic Ed! I can either have it in the body of the return email or send it as an attachment. Make sure you include Marshall or Byberry in the header. I dump unknown emails.
Radical Ed - Thanks for the pics!
Radical Ed, Sorry to be a bother, but if you have any other cool Abannoned places pics, i would love to see them! E-mail me anytime. Thanks, Ed from Oregon
radical ED I have heard that if you are being chased by the security at Byberry that you should go inside the buildings because there not aloud in the buildings......is this true?
The only way security will *chase* you is if you're a young person. Otherwise, they just ask you to leave and cell-phone the local police. Usually you have time to leave if you get the chance. Security CANNOT touch you, grab you, or physically restrain you though. It IS true that security is forbidden to go in the buildings, but the Philadelphia Police will make that decision as the situation allows. Friends of mine have been chased AND arrested inside by the police, but their infractions were stupid, dangerous, and unforgivable. RESPECT your local police. If you taunt them or throw stuff at them or in any way endanger them, they WILL kick your ass and haul you in. If security is hassling you and no police have yet been involved, it would probably benefit you to go inside and get away from that area as quickly as possible. Then again you have to leave sometime, and believe me, they WILL be waiting for you if you're not careful. Don't go in blind. Your chances of screwing up are much greater if you don't know what you're doing.
wow i was looking at the old pictures of byberry, i saw little kids in cribs, made me feel pretty bad...
Those pics, the link listed above, are very disturbing. I know which one you're talking about and the way the cribs are all butted up against one another is sorrowful to the max.
Radical Ed, when is the next time you will be in Byberry?
this is where I always get in from through the window and follow the patient tunnel to the N-8 building
Who climbs in anywhere? With dozens of open doors, I just walk right in.
Man oh man. I learned something new today.

I never knew Marshall was a manufacturer of any thing else except musical equipment.
is there any cooper wearth stripping in there anymore ?
scrappers... forget it. There's nothing left in the kitchen, and I'm not about to give away any locations of remaining copper either.
trust me I can find some copper out of all them buildings I've been in .......you spelt copper wrong !
you spelt it right I was wrong my bad
it's so frustrating being a young person with a passion for exploring these locations. whenever i go to these places, i never break windows to get in, never paint, don't even move shit around. yet security still perceives all young people as juvenile delinquents. *sigh*
We wish there were more like you. It's not fair when the good ones get tarred with the same brush that the destructive ones do, is it?
Haha I see my name there.
Seriously, I do.
I'm thinking granite countertops, stainless steel sink, it'll be good as new!
is there 2 kitchens? or is this a very recent pic..cuz i was just there and it lo0ks totally diff.
Just about every building there has a kitchen of sorts in it.
Yes, I know :)
You folks have a lotta guts. More than me. Thanks for the great photes. they're creepy, but cool. God Bless.
time to get some new pictures
To my knowledge, Motts never returned for a farewell trip or anything of the sort.
I can see that one redneck was there by his art he left.
These big bread ovens are Middleby-Marshall, an that´s not the same manufacturer of the guitar amplifiers. Middleby-Marshall was founded in USA in 1888 by Joseph Middleby and John Marshall; Marshall Amplification was founded by Jim Marshall in London, England. Middleby Marshal is the greatest conveyor ovens manufacturer in the world.
They abated W5 right didn't it have asbetos?
i feel in love with this location the first time i ever saw the pictures which was about five years ago, i was shocked and on the verge of tears when i read it was demolished, i understand that keeping some of the buildings is dangerous, but they are beautiful pieces of art.
