As messed -up as this place is, this machine is pretty intact.
you gotta wonder how much old junk like this would be worth. I bet theres money in it?
I was the technician for a while, I have to tell you this brings back memories. a compulive swallower that ate so much, that gas formed in his intestines and he literally exploded on the table. Another ate something and was rushed in, his stomach making beeping noises, It turned out he had a musical digial watch that was shorting out. One had me wondering if there was confetti in the casset. He had been hit by a shot gun blast and never treated. Have good night and if you go, please watch out for Stanley, he doesn't like visitors in his tunnels.
1.) past employee, i heard the staff would beat and abuse the patiants is it true and if it is, did you ever beat any???
2.) past employee, who is stanley???
1, only to stop from getting my butt kicked. 2, you don't want to meet him. Tghe mind of a three yea old, and the strength of ten men. We ahd no plce to put him. So he is still wandering up there. Just have a Soda or Candy bar when you run into him
well the thought of running into stanley would be enough to deter me from venturing into the tunnels of byberry thank you very much.
A bit frightening! Thanks for the insight from an "insider"!
This Stanley sounds like one of the many urban legends you hear about Byberry with lunatics and murderers lurking in the tunnels and such.Sorry but I think past employee is playing games with us.
There is NO Stanley, or anyone else roaming the halls at Byberry. That's just ridiculous. You might see some school kids, but that's about it.
I'd be more afraid of school age kids than any Stanley these days. Yeah I said it, Yet I am not old cuase the music still isn't too loud. Hehe.
I heard there is this one nasty mofo that roams there going by the name of "Liz".... don't let that name fool you, the gender is indistinguishable! This "Liz" is so heartless she cut open a deer last winter and crawled inside the body to stay warm in the basement of N10...
I'm sorry, I referred to "Liz" as a "she".... this "Liz" is most certainly an IT
NO STANLEY ??? darn, what about a henry, is there one of those?? heheh, the whole story was so poorly made up it that it was hilarious, lol
The losers who deface and "hang out" at Byberry seem to be the only ones roaming around there!
Hmmmm, CM, I define *loser* as the fearful interloper who's only sighseeing is done in front of the computer screen. Take life by the balls, not in the ass.
As a former resident of Northeast Philadelphia, "Byberry" was a common site along the boulevard.
I attended school and graduated from college in the Philadelphia area. For the past 27 years, I have been lucky enough to be a stay at home Mom.
My family and I now live far away, and I was introduced to this site by one of my daughters.
I never anticipated individuals who might "hang out" at an abandoned psychiatric hospital (with beer in tow!) and be proud of it!
Kudos to Motts for the breathtaking photographs, of this and other places in the country.
I will accept being a *loser*, if that is your definition. My definition of a loser is one who hangs out at a place like Byberry, FOR YEARS!
CM.... I'm glad you're NOT an urban explorer to be honest. I doubt you could handle it.
I could go into the reasons for going to places like Byberry and hanging out in there..... but you just wouldn't understand.
Lastly, youre right, Kudos to Motts for being an URBAN EXPLORER and having the balls to go into such buildings and taking such fantastic pictures ~
Urban explorer? Is that what you call it? The police (and I) call it criminal trespass. I seek out buildings such as this one to buy and restore, however it seems when I get a building like this I always seem to have someone that decides that rules and locks and barriers don't apply. I have had equipment stolen and had to make countless repairs because of so-called "urban explorers" such as yourself.
I have done some UE in my time and I never defaces or had taken what we found like some others have I guess i just got old and stopped life and mundane thing's tend to do that you know. But if I was given a chance I would be the first one there ...
"I have had equipment stolen and had to make countless repairs because of so-called "urban explorers" such as yourself."

someone likes to paint with a wide brush! and no your equipment is not being stolen from people like motts, but if you really care about whatever it is you leave at locations, why don't you fork over more money for active security that walks around the insides of the buildings?!
I guess that some people think it's all fun and games to deface thing's that are left behind or to take them w/.o ever really caring .. sad if you ask me ..
"I guess that some people think it's all fun and games to deface thing's that are left behind or to take them w/.o ever really caring .. sad if you ask me .."

hmm i see i big difference between defacing a item, compared to taking it and preserving it. its not sad at all when (for example) someone takes spoons out of a old sewer at byberry that have "Comm of Penna" stamped on the handle and in turns someday uses the item in a documentary of sort...
Tis true ... I guess I see thing's different them most whenever I went exploring, and it's been a while i never took anything or painted anything .. I guess being who I just could not bring myself to doing that
I do apologize however for the "wide brush" with which I painted. I know some are just merely coming to take pictures and just observe, however the vandals seem to notice this and follow suit.

Why would one have to pay for around-the-clock security when after all there is not supposed to be someone in the building. Also, in regards to "forking over more money", I have a $30 milliion restoration and thanks to "urban explorers" (more along the vandal type) I now have to pay thousands on damage caused by people trying to get into the building. This is not even anywhere close to damages done by vandalism by removing historical architectural pieces.

Unfortunately my solution to security and 24-hour surveilance and most peoples are a little different. My idea is an 8 foot chain-link fence with razorwire on top with a shot first ask questions later security approach, especially where historical works of art (architecturally speaking) are concerned.
Neuweiler,
Respectfully speaking,
I can appreciate your comments. Please understand however, not all Urban Explorers deface, steal or defile while exploring.
Some merely want to take a few pictures, leave everything intact thus preserving history.
In most cases, there is a big difference between Urban Exploring and Vandalism.... While some do both, I assure you that is not the intention here.

Neuweiler, do you mind if I ask what sort of property you own? (ie. an old hospital, office building etc... )
Just as the name implies, I am buying the former Neuweiler Brewery in Allentown.
Neuweiler, try putting up floodlights and fencing. That *shoot-first* bullshit is just that, bullshit. If you spent a mere fraction of your *restoration* costs on lighting and fencing, you wouldn't have these problems. A seven-dollar-an-hour guard might be a wise consideration as well. If it doesn't "appear" abandoned, folks won't break in.
Shoot first ha ha thats right shoot some kids for wanting to explore.Unless someone is a threat to your life you have no right to take theirs.
Neuweiler,
you mean to tell me that you cant see the beauty in these pictures?? I think Motts is doing a service to every owner of any abandoned site he has taken pictures of. Please dont group everyone together . Open your eyes and enjoy
it gives me the chills all over my body.
does anyone notice that buck and redneck are taged in almost every pic : x
Rednek is just some stoner dude that hung there for a brief moment in time. Wierd guy.
Buck is the caretaker of Byberry. He knows it inside out and in the dark. He's more in tune with this place than anyone I've ever met. It's fuckin' scary. He shows up and disappears from and into the thin air like a phantom. This dude could definitely kill you silently and slip away like the fog.
I drink beers with him whenever I see him, he's one cool motherfucker.
My son "hang's out" in Byberry and while I am sure there is "partying" going on I believe he and his friends are there simply to explore....who wouldn't? I know in my teen days many of the mansions were already abandoned and we too explored everything we could. I do have to say all of you are pretty brave;-) I think it's time my son get a digital camera for as much as he's in there;-) He could tell/show you a thing or two also;-) Have fun guys!!!!! GodDog, Radical Ed....you guys rock!!
Does your son have a tag name he goes by? I've given away at least a dozen flashlights to teens in there that went in without one. I try to be cool to folks of all ages in there. I was only fourteen when I went into the Byberry buildings that used to be on the edge of Parkwood on Townsend road back in 1982.
radical ed, i want to meet up with you before they tear it down and get a tour, i only been in once so far and it was awesome. my sn is autumnredemption
i wroye a story about, meeting someone that is making a movie(filming in byberry),it was pretty weird, and its true!!!
check out! www.myspace.com/markermusic
its in the blog section, called "dont pick up the phone"
i've been in the parkwood side many times, many years, alot story's ...this is a killer site!!!
I met a little boy named henery. He was 7 years old and he got attacked by a pacient in byberry and died in a hosptial
Damn. That's scary. Imagine how his parents must've felt.
Yeah, I left my mark in a few places (other than Byberry--never ever been there) and I don't consider it vandalism. I don't usually leave a mark, but sometimes you just have to. You guys understand, right?
I'm surprised that they dident take that when it first shut down probabley worth alot of money now its worth as much as my underwear
i definately would like to meet up with radical ed or goddog for a tour of this place ive only been twice but now weve decided were goin every weekend until they demolish it. it is an awesome place. i think were goin to Champs couch saturday. my sn is rngmstr716m if anyone would be interested in meetin up with us there or whutever.
RadicalEd , I've been wanting to go for a tour for quite some time now. I don't live to far either. So, if your cool and in need of beer please respond. I'd prefer a day time tour.
Join the forum and get a hold of me that way folks.
What I've noticed is that even though people destroy walls, floors, ceilings, etc; they still have the common decency to leave some remenants of the building intact. I.E., signs, medical equipment, etc.
The machine had been dismantled. It hasn't got an x-ray tube. It is only the table.
hey i was ther last weekend!!!! that was a fun trip to bad there terrin it down tho
I remember a story when some people went into a chernobal hospital (sorry, killed the spelling) and they extracted cesium from an xray machine. Yeah they did die if you wanted to know.
Hmm PCBs
that is in N10 right?
Come on Ed you could get a free candy bar out of all these people, you've got to keep the stories going!
Strange that they'd leave an intact X-Ray machine behind. They aren't cheap.
