Looking at the back of the building; the cell blocks from the original 1853 penitentiary used to extend off to the left side.

I noticed that there didn't seem to be an exercise yard of any kind.

The prisoners probably had to spend all day punching those star shapes into the cells and stairs! That was exercise enough!

Almost looks like a power plant.
I recall there was a yard enclosed by high fence. The fence was removed years after closer. I seem to remember seeing the fence for years after.
Again, the rec yard was on the north side, surrounded by fencing.
