Staircase

Staircase

The stairs leading to the dark, riveted, submarine-like first floor. The star burst pattern punched out of the steps were the same size and shape as the ones in the cell blocks.

I see they spared no expense when it came to decorating and making stamping dies :)

I wonder if there was a specific intended purpose, it seems like a lot of extra work to punch all those holes in a sheet of steel that is going into a prison. although it was probably cheaper to make the cell walls like this instead of fabricating bars.

Very cool shot Mr. Motts!
these little stars follow ya everywhere
someone who built it must have really liked stars
This is my favorite Gallery.
were all made of stars. LOL HATE THAT SONG
The stars you see all over in this place were made to resemble the old badges the officers used to wear back in the day, They wanted the prisoners to get used to seeing that shape everywhere they were throughout the prison.

well, that's what the current owner of the prison told some friends of mine on a tour they took a few months back.
it does look like stairs from a submarine
Guess you could say the decor in this place was well coordinated!!
I would never ever go up those stairs. It looks like it is gonna fall.
You take the very best staircase shots!
Follow the Stars it will take you Some Where.
i like that picture. i like how you can see the starting of the staircase down as well.
It would make more sense for the stairs to contain holes for the screws to see thru, so there weren't any "blind spots" for someone to get shanked...
