Autoclave

Autoclave

Now that's an autoclave! These were used to sterilize medical instruments, and the two in here are the biggest I've ever seen.

You wouldn't believe how many dummies think this for cremating corpses. It's filled with wire racks about eight inches apart that should tell even the morons what it was used for. There's a smaller one in the dentist's office.
Why did they need such autoclaves in a psych hospital? More questions.
Because people in psych hospitals also deserve sterilized medical instruments like everyone else. Institutions have always been small communities with their own medical facilities on-grounds and the materials you use "inside" should be as good as what is used "outside."

I work in a facility for people with intellectual disabilities and we have a medical hospital unit and an outpatient surgical unit, so we need to have access to sterilized medical equipment (not that autoclaves are used quite as much these days with all the disposable equipment that people use any more). Besides, in psych hospitals and places like where I work, you might (or might not) be surprised at how many falls and cuts and such occur. Between seizures and their sometimes associated injuries, motor coordination issues, self-injurious behavior, and aggression by other clients (the least of the injuries) we have several people in the clinic every day of the year. Therefore you need to have access to surgical instruments so you can stitch someone up quickly if they get a laceration, etc.

Or were you giving us a sly wink and hint about lobotomies from the 50s and 60s? :-)
I went to the dentist's office once and we found recordings of something on the paper
i want that kind of door on my safe!! it looks like the steering wheel on a pirate ship...AARRR, we be steralizin these here dentistry tools and no land lubber here has de guts to be stoppin mee!! yaarrr!, we'll dig up the autoclave in seven yar! :)
One word: awesome.
Niiice, Live. That's exactly what I was thinking!
again, I am impressed with this HUGE autoclave, unless I go work in a hospital, will I never work with such a large machine., WOW and again i say WOW8-

To whom it may concern,

I've gotten an email claiming this photo is someone else's, this "NoX" person...

I don't know why these claims are being made, but every photo in the galleries on this site were taken by myself, with the exception of Drew's Northampton morgue shot, which was credited and given permission to use.

This accusation is incredulous and false. I have the high resolution file, with the time, date, camera make and model, as well as four witnesses who were with me that day. Why would I steal one shot from someone else?

I have a color version with EXIF data embedded in: http://www.opacity.us/...ent/byberry_exif.jpg

If you want to press a lawsuit, bring it on dude. Otherwise, you're a sorry excuse for a person to try and pull this shit. Have a nice day.
Yeah, it's a pretty unfounded accusation. I wouldn't give it a second thought.
Mr. Motts, No need to explain, we know your work!! Ed from Oregon
Motts, he's just jelous.
People without talent are always trying to say that something was stolen from them. I'd say just consider it a sign that you're really talented, and ignore the little fucker. BTW, I looked @ the color shot, and it rocks too! Have you ever taken a bad picture? :)
What drives people to pull petty, immature crap like that? It could be jealousy, like jo said...no matter what the reason, though, the little twerp can't prove a thing, because this "NoX" idjit didn't take the pic, Motts did.
How many photos you have on this site, Motts? We know they're all yours. Why the hell would you steal one photo when you've probably got thousands to choose from? Does anyone realize NoX is in the word obnoxious? I like YOUR color version, too, Motts!
Hi, I'm Spanish, I'm studing Nursing and I need to know, who was inventor of autoclave. Can you help me please?
i lost my dog on the grounds .she looked like the dog face on top of the door
Motts is it worth having a section on this site for an explanation of the various features & fittings?

Rather than having to post them every time someone asks.
I was thinking of making a dictionary of common terms at some point; not enough time at the moment :-)
That's good! it will save Lynne & others in the know having to explain the same thing over and over again.
that fan in the backround kind of looks like the one my boss uses on jobs. wonder if he stole it from byberry.
AUTOCLAVEs were also used as crematoriums when othe appropriate facilities were not available. Usually indicated by the depth and width of the unit. It does look AWFULLY LARGE.
Is that the autoclave from the N10 basement?
The false accusations aside, it was cool to see the original photo too! They really do have different "feels" to them...
Dogbone6-autoclave won't get hot enough to cremate people...just bacteria and protazoa....
oh my lawdy,
the door on the autoclave is almost exactly like several doors from silent hill 5.
it was a living hell even being a security person it will never leave my mind
Autoclaves cannot be used to cremate people! Sorry but I had to comment on that because it's SO very not true. They steralize with steam like a bigger, hotter veggie steamer. Not to be too gross but what comes out of your veggie steamer would be what would happen to a person in an autoclave.
-I think this was a decon auto clave.
I use to work in the old Cape Canaveral Air Force Station Dispensary. We autoclaved every night with one that was tiny compared to this monster. The heat & the pressure those things put out will put a hurting on ya real quick if you didn't know what you were doing.
I know its old news and this is a dead thread but "NoX" was the douchebag responsible for the defacing of graystone. He literally shit on the model of the floorplans for the new hospital.Goddog punched him in his mouth. He also went to jail for a while because of the whole graystone thing. We also found out he was raped while in custody by another incarcerated individual. The report states forced sodomy. So either he was forced to perform fellatio or anal sex.Report also states "NoX" had to.be brought to infirmary to have sutures applied to his rectum, which definitely implicates forced anal sex.Said individual also had to be cleansed of copius amounts of semen collection for a rape kit. Guess he won't be doing that again.
