The colors in the carpet were incredible.

What's up with the tree????
The box on the far wall, near the entrance, is where departing guests could drop their room keys if they had neglected to leave them at the checkout desk.
I stayed in a hotel that had a lobby just like this, I believe it was somewhere in Florida.

Great photos, thanks for sharing!
This seems to be a pic taken from the "Reservations Desk"... to the right is the Service Desk for bellhop and carhop service and straight ahead on the left short wall (not seen) was the elevator to the Essex and Hampshire wings and the elevator door only opened on this side in the lower lobby; on other floors a second door opened on the right.
What IS up with that tree???
when I look at the different pictures...different scenes from "The Shining" keep popping into my head. Also its snowing as it was in The Shining. Those hedge animals outside that came alive!!!!
those trees were still pritty much intact fake plants.ugly ones at that.
I can imagine walking through here as the last person left on Earth, and this is the way all the buildings are starting to go. I've seen movies like that.
I remember this lobby being filled at check-in time for singles weekends, college and high school trips, and the Sr Citizens "mid-week specials". I worked here as a lifeguard and running the spotlight in the nightclub. I usually wasn't in this part of the hotel but since I was part of the activities staff, occasionally my boss, Hank Leids, would have me come to help out with the check in. I'll never forget the time he decided it would be funny to bite me on the ass in the middle of the lobby during a singles weekend check-in!!! Kind of hard to keep order and respect in the pool after that!!!
fuck, its like the shining all over again
how is that tree still alive? and why is it there? is threr some guy who comes ther into some abandoned hotel to feed a plant?!
i used to work at this hotel like 10 years ago when it was actually open as a bell hop. i took swimming and tennis lessons here. i also worked at the Pines Golf Course for about 6 or 7 years. My family is actually good friends with the former owner of the hotel and golf course. i've also taken some scary walks through the abandoned hotel.
this place looks amazing..me and my buddies urban explore different places about once a week.I came across The Pines on your site about 3 days ago, and we deff. want to go there but we dont know were it is. If you have time can you email me at Reddbulllman@Aol.com and explain to me how far it is from Long island. Thanks
I just found this sight & started to cry ! I worked @ the Pines with Hank Leids in the early 80's for 2 summers & during the holidays. I look @ the pictures & remember so much life there, I spent the summers in a cabana by the pool & sometimes in "The Ritz" building. I once accidentally cracked my boss's ribs (Hank) while playing. It was written on the wall of the Ritz lobby; "Hank Leids, If you're fool enough to follow" !
Looking for an old friend of mine from the Catskills. His name is Hank Leids. Does anyone know where he is?
Does anyone remember me? I worked in the day camp and as a mothers helper to the Ehrlich children. The love of my life then, at sixteen, was Steven Ehrlich, age three. I hope you are well and happy, my love. I sometimes think of all of you. Also worked as a hostess in the dining room where I had the unique experience of personally meeting Elvis Presley. They were the best years of our lives. Thanks for the photo's. My email address is Donna@nailbuffs.com if anyone wishes to reach us.
