Suits

Suits

Some old suits still hung from the basement pipes, while other damp pieces of clothing lie crumpled and rotting on the floor.

Motts did You try one on? LOL :)
clothing always makes me wonder.... who was the last person to hang that jacket there? Did he realize that he wouldnt be back for it? stuff like that.
That's...that's an awful lot of mold.

Stacy, I always wonder about that too.
Yeah its like they left it there and the next day it closed down..
That mold really looks disgusting. I bet it smells bad too.
just looking at these pieces of clothing you have to think about the person who wore it last
Yeah. When clothing is left behind, it's like they expected to come back to it, and just never did.

Good shot =]
The Stand from Steven King comes to mind in a shot like this.
phew! (runs out of the room holding nose) - so much for recycled clothing...
could it be the "resident" has a job?
A Man can never have enough suits, Grab some for that classic retro Look.
Great shot Motts!
Great shot, Motts. Images like this always sort of "virtually populate" the places for me. Discarded or forgotten mundane, everyday personal items always add a distinctive, "actual human" element, and help to remind us that this was "home" for someone long gone.
i agree nvusofmotts, it made me feel them, but also made me feel like something of them was discarded. wether a good or bad part i wouldnt try to guess
i realy like it though. id love a wallpaper
Now it's my turn to say it after holding back for a long, long time;---That's Creepy!
There seems to be "something else" behind the clothes, sitting in the corner.
What an odd thing to leave behind.....
Not to worry Vastarien...just some more clothes in a heap, Motts scares ghosts away.

Someone forgot their laundry. Yuk!

Its almost like the suits are hanging on and every now and then one falls and ends up on the floor...

Then theres 5 little grey suits,
hanging in a row...
wow my dumb butt would of probably been so excited and would want to try one on. grrr...wow interesting pic! awesome
This Has to be my favorite photo and you know it does make you think that people use to live and work at places like this. It does give it a Human element to it.
I wonder if that homeless guy wears them sometimes or wore them? :'D
that's really amazing that those are still there.
Betcha those looking pretty spiffy once upon a time... :)
These clothes must have been here for a very long time. They are all dirty and smell too I bet. Motts did you tried any or these clothes on. This site Rocks?????
any Levi's on the floor? Antique clothes can be worth money.
It looks like a zombies wardrobe.
frankenstein's closet......
i bet it smelled awful with the dampness but still an amazing shot
Don't they have what they call "drying rooms" in dormitory style buildings? Is that why these are here? Maybe not.
thats an awsome picture dude! you got a talent for using available light! simply awsome
eeeekkkkk this one freaked me out....:(
p.s. talk about splitting in a hurry....i can almost hear someone saying"just leave them , we need to leave right now"
Beautifut, very beautiful. I've only seen something like this (and suits in this condition) once before, and it was in an exceedingly old bank that has been without residents for at least 50 years, right next to my grandparent's house. Everything was rotting, dusty, mouldy, and bug ridden.
I had quite forgotten about it until now.
Thanks for the memory reminder.
thats a little unsettling .

what did they use the suits for ?
i like this pic a lot
mr.motts i worry for your health. be careful out there
Reminds me of Mitt Romney, empty suits, all decaying in the dust bin of history. Oh, I wax political, excuse me.
I hope you use a respirator in places like this.
awesome light; it does look like something is sitting back in the corner with arms overhead. . . . these places are haunted. are you sure you've never picked up an image of someone in your pix?

Motts, you are the best photographer i've seen in ages.
apple, it's obvious! They use these suits to make those hideous pictures of "happily-dancing" inmates.
suits hanging on pipes in the basement WHY?
Hmm those look a hell of a lot better than the suits my last ex boyfriend has in his closet!!!
Could these have been donated "gently used" suits for use by the clients who were being prepaired by their treatment teams to return to outside? To teach proper dressing, job interview skills and such?
( reason i ask is that I have a friend who works @ a local developmental/mental health facility here in Northern NJ and they are always collecting gently used business casual clothes for patients returning to the ourside world and jobs)
suits for burial of residents?
OH, I didn't realize this was your house.
yeah. somebody does live here
I really would like to go can somebody tell me the address i love this kind of stuff.
I have seen other pics to the place is huge
do you like having people ask you habitual questions? You sound like a martyr, but I give you props on the art!
sweet pic,i would love to visit that place.
Ech! Thats extremely odd. Maybe the paients left their suits thinking they'd come back...but I guess not.
All dressed up and nowhere to go in a make believe world
Those were nice suits at one time. Formal attire. Sometimes patients in these type of institutions have musical talent and were assembled into performing acts. If they were performing for a public event they would want to be dressed in appropriate duds. Even Nazi concentration camps had musical groups consisting of the prisoners.

Just one possible explanation. The information that we have is, some things that were at one time really nice suits are hanging in the basement of what was at one time a mental hospital. They were there for some reason. Put there for some reason. And left there -- why?

Considering the exposure to mildew, moisture, and just time, those suits would not even survive an attempt to clean them. They would end up in shreds.
This shot is almost depressing...
i wonder if a cheap type person could get those suits dry cleaned and get some use out of them ? ha ha no more high dollar men's warehouse expenses at least!
Ohhhh dear, people were honest, with high ethics and morale back in the days. The suits must have been fine when hung up there, once upon a time, long ago, and nobody went and stole/took them, to wear, so some are still there. We will never know the story. Great picture! Be well and stay safe.
