Shelter Zone

Shelter Zone

The pried open doors to an old bomb shelter; the passenger tunnel on the other side of this door was sealed off at both ends.

I proceeded with much caution, ready to anticipate the one remaining resident around any corner.

I'm liking the spike someone drove into the door
RacheyBachey--"Picture Candy"....I LIKE it..:-)
I might have to steal that one, and oh-so-slyly inject it into a conversation with my photographer friend...(cheesy, I know, but it IS a good one :-) ) You'll be immortalized ! ;-)
happy happy joy joy! new pics! thanke motts! it does kinda look like someone tried to kill that door!
Well, this really caught me by surprise.
Had to do a double - take while staring straight while noticing the date!
Such a gripping into you have written, maintaining suspense is key! :-) The doors seem to hold a menacing feel, urging you to come forth.........
Very, very cool. Have you encountered many bomb shelters in the old hospitals...this is the first time i've ever heard of it!
Yes, most hospitals built before the 1950's had bomb shelters built into the basements of many solid concrete buildings. They are usually denoted by the yellow and black, three-triangle radiation signs that read "Fallout Shelter." Often, there are stretchers, barrels full of water, medical supplies, toiletries, and "survival crackers" that have since expired in these shelters.

This sign was quite different from the norm, perhaps it precedes the Cold War era...
Nice shot! Can't WAIt to finally get through this new set!
Wow you're so brave!! Getting good shots while someone else was wandering around, I would've bailed! Nice work, I love these galleries !

Hm, the server was under maintenance at about 10:00 PM EST which might have caused some problems for a few hours, but everything should be working ok now... if not please let me know which browser you are using. Thanks!
I'm so glad to see new pictures. This opens a world to me. I live in the midwest.
It's very interesting to read the comments under each photo. These photos can either bring back very real memories or rattle our imagination. To one person it's simply a photo of a door to a bomb shelter...to another it's a secret passageway for a patient on the run; to another it's a creepy looking door to be feared and approached with caution because we don't know what lurks behind it or what will become of us should we get too close...Very interesting. Love looking!!
Gimme shelter. Nice, I like it.
This is an excellent depiction of torn emotions that were felt during WWI..
