Stretcher

Stretcher

A neat old stretcher was up on the second floor; it looked like it might have been brought up from the fallout shelter in the basement.

I WANT THAT CHAIR!!!
I REALLY WANT THAT CHAIR!!!!!! IT'S SO RETRO!!!!!!
That chair is a museum quality piece C-1960. It could use a good cleaning though
Was that a restraining stretcher? I notice the straps hanging off.
lone chair with the lone stretcher? wheres the lone doctor?
"SO tell me; ven did kyou start havink dis thoughts?...
I almost thought it was a table! A very twisted yet posh layout... but then again this is coming from a crazy artist :P
I love the chair.
nice shot .

i really want that chair .
The straps look like... skin...
It's a buffet table. The straps are to hold the chocolate and champaigne fountains in place during moving. The chair was for the person monitoring the festivities and making sure there was plenty of marshmallows and plastic cups.
"Do You See?" :-)
lol, i like the chair!
several of the photos Motts has taken of mental facilities have these chairs in them. I wonder if the Gorvernment had a contract with the chair manufactuer and shipped them to all the facilities.
I don't know how things were done in the "bad old days," but in modern psych wards a chair or a school-type desk is usually placed in the middle of the hallway at night so the techs can monitor patients. I think they might do some charting, but I can't be positive because I've typically been asleep when they're out there.
wow, the patient actually had a choice, sit awhile, lay awhile
The chair is a Luther Conover design. It is made of fiberglass and they came in just about any color you might want. They were made in the late 50s-early 60s. Conover was, along with Charles Eames one of the modern style furniture designers for Herman Miller.

I remember these chairs being quite common when I was a child in the late 60s- early 70s. By the late 70s they were considered old junk and thrown away, especially if the fiberglass had cracked from frequent use as one would see in these chairs that were in institutions.

Today, if that chair were cleaned up and it was free of cracks, it would easily fetch $100 wholesale.
