Isolation Viewing Room

Isolation Viewing Room

This area was used as an open casket viewing room for people who died of highly contagious diseases, and needed to be isolated from the living during the wake - a service not possible at a regular funeral home.

The double doors leading to the foyer could be closed, and a separate adjacent door leads to the room behind the glass, allowing the body to be safely transported by a professional without great risk of spreading the infection. The glass room has been rather unceremoniously been covered with plywood - perhaps there was no need for this service in the later years of the hospital due to modern medicine, and the small room was transformed to a closet.

Amazing. I've never heard of rooms like these before. A treasure.
Is it wierd that I once looked at an apartment that looked like this? lol
Thats pretty cool, perhaps they boarded it up so if someone broke the glass the contagions would have another border to pass through maybe? How long can bacteriums last?
Beautiful woodwork, and that info about the window is rather interesting, I never heard of something like that before.
This is all so very interesting! Beautiful details!
amazing woodwork
I ove the woodwaork, but also look at the detailing on the ceiling!!!! Just gorgeous.
Love that woodwork.
Great woodwork and arches, Great condition too. I hope someone saves this place from destruction
Nice! Love the woodwork, too...Is that a pressed tin ceiling?
Wow.
I was just going to ask if you remember Motts, is that a tin ceiling?

What gorgeous woodwork!
A 1st for me.
Very interesting find...
can't find workmeship like that anymore. i don't even think a carpenter of today would even have the skills and creativtity to replicate such beauty.
Euu I'd never live there It'd be almost disrespectful and creepy knowing dead bodies were kept there decades ago.
wow, amazing, very interesting!
This is a beautiful room, so open and light.
That's very interesting! i never heard of such a room!
I'm with those that never heard of such thing. I'd think bodies that could spread something dangerous and contagious would be immediately incinerated following death back then.
Odd, sad yet such a beautiful concept. A viewing room behind glass.
its a nice place but were didnt acceptable the place
Had not heard of that before... very interesting. Gorgeous woodwork.
How grotesquely romantic.
