Old Stones

Old Stones

The comparison between the different ways of making the markers and the age of it (by using the patient number) was pretty interesting.

That one looks like it was made from cement. It's speckled with so many shades of black and white.
It really angers me that they don't have the decency to actually put the patient's name on them. Sure, if they didn't know their names, I suppose a number is the only way to go. But, I'm sure they knew the names of some of these patients. They had to, even if it was a pseudonym, at least give them some sort of identity in death, not just a number.
Very somber shots of this cemetery Motts...Well done!
These headstone shots are great.
Great use of Black and white here, I missed this one the first time I looked through.

Who is Motts?! WHO IS MOTTS?!?!
Maybe it's an existential question. ;-)
i agree Grace, surely they had records of what patients where in what rooms, is that the room numbers on the graves?

Does that number say 136. Can anybody see that number on the grave.
Well at least they didn't burn the bodys, at least they got a grave, and grave maker.....
I agree Grace, while looking through this I was actually thinking the same thing. But then I realized maybe too many patients were dying and they didn't really have a lot of time to bother putting names on the gravestones.
Some believe that these numbers were used so that families would not have to bear the negative stigma of having a family member committed in an institution.
did you see #444? mary hobbs? lol
