The other large building here looked like the workhouse, where the inmates would produce bricks for the state.

So true. prisoners worked to support themselves and were likely much better off as a result. Learned how to do something of value and were maybe a little safer while in jail. Idle hands today seem to lead to a lot of problems.

Man, wish the prison system was back like it was in the early twentieth century... no more 'lenient' sentences and crap about prisoners getting cable in their cells; you do the crime, you do the time!

So true Mike, after making bricks, and probably using them to build with, when they came out of prison they would have a skill that would allow them to go out and make an honest living. I also noticed the wood on the ceiling, to bad that can reclaim it for salvage, there really is a market for that now days with everyone going "green".
