Composition enhances the creep factor, wonderful
Demon's Alley sure looks like one helluva scary place.
I love the eerie touch the black and white adds...

Anyways, does anyone have any more info on this place? Like is there a good website or something? I'm just kinda confused about its history. Does anyone living around the area know how much of this is still there?
Barbara - According to legend, there was a cult leader who moved into one of the houses. Pranks started happening in the normally quiet neighborhood. The people were none the wiser to the man's past. Anyway, he called a meeting at his house so they could work out a solution to the problem. The rest of his cult came down from the second floor and killed everyone. The cult was never heard from again.
Anyway, though many say it's a legend, I don't doubt it. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to hide under some blankets.
Ah ok, thank you derelict sensation. That would explain the fake blood some pranksters dumped in one of the houses. I suppose all the abandoned houses are where the people that were killed used to live? Oh, do you know when this (in general) this supposedly happened? 10 years ago? 20?
I could be mistaken, but I believe I've read somewhere these houses were abandoned due to some environmental problem in the area at the time (toxic something...sorry, I don't recall exactly) and everyone had to be evacuated. I believe the curtains were painted on the boards to make the appearance people still lived there in order to dissuade vandalism. HA! (lol)
Again, this is only hear say...
Beautifull!!
wowza!
I heard that they were making the area a reservoir, so the state bought all the houses. but as you can see, no reservoir.
Interesting history, Demon Alley aka New City has.

<< The land is owned by the Newark Watershed Commission, and has been abandoned as long as anyone can remember. There is a compelling story of how one madman managed to invite his neighbors on New City Road to his home one night and kill them all in one fell swoop. I haven't seen any news stories to back that up, but historians and local officials do not deny the story, either. >>

The last I heard was that all the houses were demolished sometime in October. Looks like the demons reclaimed them.
As I said in a comment on one of the earlier pics, I used to live here in the '80s. When we were moving out in 1990, my parents told me it was because the NWCDC was no longer renting the houses out. They only let us stay until we coud find housing elsewhere. The family that lived in the biggest house were the last to move out. Their house was the one that was burned down in 2000.
ive heard a couple legends about this place. like, one of the inhabitants was a devil worshiper and murdered everyone else.
i can believe they've torn everything down! this place was so cool...
Why were they no longer renting the houses out, and why are there still furnishings there?
this shot in particular has a very european sensibility
alright, who else sees the sillhouette on the roof, its not just me is it? *shudder*
That's the chimney your seeing on the roof.
I read something about Newark Watershed Commission thinking there was Radon in the houses, so that's why they were abandoned. It would make sense, really, to explain why all of the furniture and things are inside. It's like in Chernobyl, after the explosion, nobody was allowed to take anything with them when they were evacuated because it was all contaminated. But who knows. It's all very mysterious, really.
THIS IS COMPLETLY DEMOLISHED NOW AS OF 02
You are quite mistaken Benz. These pictures were taken in 2004.
They said that in weird nj the book
Oh well, there HAD been a lot of land around those houses.
Why only two of the trees look alive?... maybe a few buried bodies keeping them as fertilizer?
Evergreens are forever green.
And Satan waves goodbye...
feels very blair witch
this place is so eerie, thanks for taking the photos to share always
