These padded chairs were found all over the second floor... some had a spring like mechanism that allowed them to rock back and forth, such as the chair in the doorway.

They look very unstable and top-heavy.

I agree that they look "home-made", perhaps a shop in the building had people make them?

believe me or not, in the boys dorm, i sat in one, not a pleasant sight, but they were quite comfortable.

The extended baseboard behind the chair makes me wonder if maybe oxygen canisters could have been placed there, presumably with the tubes going over the back of the chair?

The dirt and rub marks tell of use without cleaning or someone confined to the chair a long time. Sad and creepy at the same time. A great picture that, for me, captured a bit of the life someone experienced there.

i believe they are home made but they must've shared specs with other institutions b/c i've seen them in other places. one basement storage room had a couple of these chairs in a room full of artificial limbs and polio braces!

It looks like a bad end to a good place. If it had not been mulitated by people that should have stayed out. I have seen anything in pics that showed it is haunted. My mom told me not to believe everything you see!
