Motts, has a respirator.....I hate mold...
This is very creepy.
Chilly lookin place...
Creepy. Think about all the body's that have been on that thing.....brrrrr.
oh man seeing this late at night just gave me the chills!
Absolutely fabulous!
I don't know why, but it never seems right that these things are left where they are O.o
It's an old tomograph. Hopelessly obsolete. Unless you're flat broke, you just use a CT these days.
It's a great contrast though. The machine is still fairly white while every wall is the black brown color of decay.
wow.

this is not a good picture to look at when you're about to go to sleep.
(:
Hey, y'know it's funny (or not) - someone spent a lot of money on this once upon a time, and now it's just kind of hanging out, all deserted in this nasty mouldering place.
I bet this place smelled.
Sure hope you didn't inhale...
Old xray machines contain PCBs
I love this picture. It looks like some one just up and left it.
If this isn't a deterrent against the use of wallpaper, nothing is.
the night i enetered the fogarty building i was with like 8 other people who were a bunch of scared bitchess so we ended walking right by the x ray room so i was really pissed
that looks like a prop that is in my room in a haunted house! very creepy
Machines have proper names (like 'Joe' & "jane' and they have feelings. This one is very lonely and a little scared, though I guess it serves it right. You gave it 15 minutes of new fame.
i recently have discovered the room with this machine in it but sadly all the parts to it are no longer there... just the base of it... =[
such an expensive piece of equipment!
what a shame

A lot of this places are gorgeous, so much potential if age was well to them.
that picture is amazing!!
How long ago were these pictures taken? They are very good but these buildings look like they are in much better condition than when I was there 2 years ago. When I went in the fogarty building it looked and felt like it would fall down on our heads any minute.
The tomogram is the picture; the tomograph is the apparatus; and tomography is the process. An apparatus in which the x-ray tube and film are moved in opposite directions during an exposure so that only a single plane of tissue remains in focus during the exposure. Other planes above and below are blurred by the motion.
There is no evidence of this system having any tomographic capabilities. I assume this was concluded because of the position of the x-ray tube however all systems (including a floor mounted radiographic room which is what this is) have a bearing behind the tube so that the tube can be rotated and pointed to another receptor. i.e. a wall stand for chest x-rays or certain table bucky/table top studies. This is not a terribly old system (less than 25 years) with an elevating table. There are thousands of systems this vignt or older still in service across the US
I love seeing all the older medical equipment. It makes you really think about how far technology has come. The equipment may be different but the general idea is still the same.
I so agree w/matthew m on this pic! i so wanna take my pic w/this! =D
I agree with Matthew M. This is not a tomography machine. The tomography machine I worked on in the late 1970's didn't have a ceiling mount so that the arm holding the x-ray tube could swing back and forth.
This is a general x-ray table for any exam where the patient needs to lie down. My clinic replaced one similar to this just four years ago. It was replaced only because we went "digital" (no film).
