Modernity

Sadly, the main entrance has been renovated far beyond the beauty it once had, as can be seen below in the vintage 1937 image (photo credit to Paul Henri).

Shame about the remodelling it looked stunning in 1937!
Why do people think suspended cielings are nice?
What a way to erase Art Deco, that's very sad.
This lobby, back then, had some AMAZING details, the mural, the large plate mirrors, the plants alone the bottoms of the mirrors and the marble floor. Its simply magnificent, and Im going to keep saying this but its so amazing how modern this place once looked.
What a shame. :-(
wow, hard to believe its the same place!
they put so much effort into it and then destroyed it. Either that or someone stole it
Words out of my mouth Lynne, what a shame. :-(
The remodeling is discusting. They just took all the character out of the room. And I supposed that they actually thought it looked beter. Hmmmmm.
the picture from 1937 is beautiful! it seems there was better decor back then as opposed to now...what a shame..
The old picture looks like some swanky hotel
It is so special art deco. It's romantic and so poinant I feel that this johnny had been there many years ago.
Lynne i have read many of your posts about many of the institutions on the sight and i just want to say as a person with disabilities i admire you for answers/remarks to some peoples stupidity at the "torture" devices and just general knowledge of the feild in general i guess my next question is when do i get my soapbox??
Sends me back to me mom's day of the groovin moving 30's where art deco was king.
Todd,

Feel free to share mine anytime. I get kicked off frequently, so there's always room. :-)
I think it's wonderful that they built something soo beautiful for the patients. Everything now is so cold and sterile.
The hall outside or main entrance.

What happened it use to be so nice ?
Looked like the lobby of a 5 star hotel, what a shame they destroyed it's original beauty.
I agree with everyone in this thread. What a beautiful 'before' photos...how sad its now in ruins....shame on them for it looking like that. For destroying what was so welcoming to patients back in the day.
My God. What time & neglect will do to a building. Such a place of beauty now a wreck. Thanks for the amazing photographs Mr. Motts.
