Ha ha..Are you sure it isnt a fancy Soap Dispenser Mr. Motts?
That would of been my first guess.
How beautiful the letters are!
Looks like something from Return to Oz
Great name for a band, Motts!
Ale for Dummies!
Alabama Fire Department!
Ale For Drunks!
All Forget Drinking (any beer in there)
A Fear Defined :D
It is probably a mixing station for water and steam for wash down or cleaning.
Might have been for sampling the beer for quality or something
Man I'm surprised this place isn't totally destroyed...copper is very valuable, and getting more valuable all the time.
Soap Dispenser.
Closest I got for this:

Axial Flux Difference is used for calibrations in gas and electric companies and specifically deals with maintaining control over reactors so in case of an accident or something else they keep control over the situation. Perhaps this was used as a water valve to cool things down if something should over boil or another accident happened.
Showing us their disco moves..........
what is with you people and soap dispensers?!
We are an exceptionally clean group.

A quick search on Yahoo (for "AFD valve") leads me to think that it's just a diversion valve - probably for pressure reduction in the system (or possibly for testing the product at various stages of production).
