Memorial Plaque

Memorial Plaque

Top Picture: The unveiling of a memorial plaque in the front lobby of Medical-Surgical by a General in 1927. The photo is from the book "The Farm Colonies", by Leo Polaski 2003.

Bottom Picture: The same area, 76 years later. The plaque has been removed.

I absolutely love the way you have been able to find these old photos and then have contrasted them with the same places as they currently stand. Most remarkable!
I'm absolutely obsessed with before and after photos, especially when there are so many years between them. Thanx for this!
wow, great before/after.
THis is by far the most amazing picture, The most creepy feeling. Such an honorable spot now left to dissolve
IT WOULD BE NICE TO FIND THE PLAQUE, BRING IT BACK HERE, AND MOTTS, YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT.
That just brings out too many feelings to even express.
The plaque is probably in some souvenir hunter's grimy little hands, right about now
lol... everyone in the earlier photo looks so very proud and "upstanding". But look... all falls to ruin in the end.
I love photos from the past! Sad how it looks now but at least they took the plaque with them!
Is that a door on the far laft of the current photo? I don't see it in the before photo.
It's an elevator and if you look close, you can see it in the first picture barley. Great shot Motts!
Nope. Don't see it at all....
i was there for 4 months in the summer of 68 and i witnessed this picture first hand and the abuse that followed by our uncivilized nurses
mike,

if the picture was taken in 1927, how did you witness it first hand?
Time warp?
Is there any one who can actually testify to abuse or torture in the 50's?
The way I interpret Mike 1968's comment is that he was there and saw the plaque with his own eyes. Not that he was there in 1927.
I love it when the before pictures have people in them. I try and imagine them standing in the same exact spot in the after pictures. I don't know, I'm just weird like that. I think in a past life I was a ferret.
If you look to the right of those pictures you can see that a partition was put in. You can't see the window that is visible in the upper photo. The floor molding was never replaced. Looks like the pipes below the ceiling were added later as well as the wall socket to the left of the plaque alcove.
I love before and after pictures. Would be great to somehow get pictures of back then and compare. I love reading books that show you the way an area looked like and then see how it looks like today. Have one on Gettysburg and Pearl Harbor like that and it's amazing how things change.
its such a shame... anyone know if they took the plaque with them when the place was abandoned, or did someone loot it? damn shame if someone took it...
What's the creepy shadow in the top right lower corner of the old pic? Looks like a hand shadow puppet, or a dragons or dobermans open mouth. No one else notice?
haha it really does look like a dobermans mouth! wtf is it..a shoulder?

Enjoy.
Hallucinator,

Fabulous! Thanks! :-)
"And time goes by..."
What a great contrast. You find the best things to photograph.
THAT IS AMAZING
Then. Now.

Fascinating.
All I can say is amazing!
again, another awesome capture
Do you ever get scared before you go in?
And is like a career?! Because I really wanna do this, go takes pictures of scary places.
These places are usually pretty exciting and creepy. Unfortunately it is not a career (for me at least)
very cool
wow, seeing the difference feels a bit...striking, like I said about imagining people living there...
My inner U.S. Marine almost stood up and saluted! Evoked quite an emotional response. Don't know why.
The first photo is filled with captured paranormal actvities. There is the puppet dog like figure and am adult male next to a child in the center of the pic. I have to back and look more.
it gives me chills, how time has made it's statement.
Amazing!
Still want to know what they one object is in the right lower corner of the old picture. Maybe just a smear or smudge? Old pictures can play tricks on you.
