Eye Examination Equipment

Eye Examination Equipment

I recognized this light in the old photo shown below where a patient is undergoing an eye exam in 1973.

The bottom photo is from the book "The Farm Colonies", by Leo Polaski 2003.

I dont think you are going to find some one who will get that equipment for you.... most ppl dont like to steal
Pixar...anyone, anyone?
I think its awsome that you have "before and after" pictures - it just amazes me
It's not so much 'stealing'. I've been inside and have found books and books with records of the wards and all the patients and stuff like that is simply priceless.
The value of something doesn't change the fact that it's theft. If you take something from here that didn't belong to you, then it's stealing.
Yes, and there is a term for stealing things that do not have much value -- petty theft.
Interesting. I have never had my eyes examined by anything that looked like this.
i like this soap dispenser >:-)))
I still don't understand when they closed these buildings why were they in such a hurry to get out of there that they didn't take anything out of there
Actually KPPC is pretty barren given it's size... it looked like they took most of the equipment and furniture which makes this light an odd find.
The KPPC is where my grandmother worked there she was there when it closed in 1996 it is quite amazing the stories i hear about these long forgotten halls!
that looks relatively new, yet theres something haunting about it...Motts in person is it creepy? They whole medical eery side about it?
I didn't find it all too creepy; some of the older gurneys and exam tables in other hospitals were more unnerving.
Daft to leave a piece of equipment like this- even if it does date from '73 it's still useable, and optometry instruments like that are expensive.
There's many an underfunded African bush hospital that would be glad to have that sent out to them- and a lot of the other equipment and furniture, too.
It's like Tim Burton meets Pixar
Looks like what's known as a 'slit lamp'. The idea is that light is shone into the patient's eyes and it bouces off the retina. The doctor can see the state of the retina, or scan the eye for foreign bodies. You'll likely find the knobs will change intensity and slit shape/color.
I live in leos house...
He has light fixtures from pilgrim state, they are ossem.
Everything is getting destroyed in these buildings from time and exposure alone.....not to mention when the buildings are torn down, it will all be thrown away anyway. LIBERATE the ARTIFACTS from this historical site and STEAL ALL YOU WANT! Would you rather they be destroyed or cherished?
No its not that scary I found but its fun scaring the crap out of people by throwing things out in the halls, every floor is like identical, somebody said they heard footsteps , shouting and a walkie talkie, everyone was scared and we wanted to get out, cept me, I didnt get to the very very top of the tower part, but one ladder down, You can see so much for that location its actually quite amazing
I believe the device is an old "slit lamp".
To Pat Med 06 - you mentioned you have found books with patients' names in it. I am a RN researching mental health issues within our family. One of my cousins was admitted to Northampton back between 1900-1920. Trying to do all things legally, the Probate dept of Northampshire Co first tells me I have to pay $135 just to have some authority to request the records, then tells me he has no records! She spent many years in Northampen and in 1923 was trafsferred to Gardner where she died in 1932.
Please contact me privately as I want to explore the possibilitiy you may have some records about her. Thanks! jp55@wt.net
Ann - the chances of finding your family's records laying around in an abandoned hospital are extremely slim. Since both hospitals are in Massachusetts, you may have some luck at the state archives:

Massachusetts State Archives
220 Morrissey Blvd., Boston, MA 02125
Telephone: (617) 727-2816
which floor is that on? id love to go check it out!
Jlb youre correct and i have some pt files from kp about 2 boxes i can tell u where the file room is ive been there recently. Im searching for my aunts records but i know that is simply impossible. Laurawlnight@gmail.com
