do be careful at old military sites, uxos are continuously being found. live rounds have been found that go all the way back to the civil war, wwI & II uxos aren't uncommon at all.
btw, really love the site.
I love this site too. I want to go back to the tunnels but I can't remember where the entrance is. Where is it?
motts, isnt this also known as clausland mountain?
Yes it is.
It's kind of funny seeing Candace without all her stage garb on. It's a good thing ... but still kind of strange.
your both are gorgous and your work is to die for it fills my spine with enegey i cannot quite place my finger on but it changes me
Motts~I wish I was rich. I'd be offering you book deals! I would love to see your work in a series of books.
At the Enchanted Forest's birthday celebration there were some artists selling their painted artwork of the place.
Also put some of their art up for auction there.
Have you ever shown your work in a gallery or done anything like that before?
Have I ever told you that you rock, Motts?
tcb is right about the uxo's.

UXO stands for unexploded ordnance.
When I was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina from late August, 1994 - November, 1996 I accidently found an unexploded artillery shell when I was digging a hasty fighting position.
( A hasty fighting position is not the same as a foxhole. ) I actuallly hit the damn thing with my E - tool. { entrenching tool; the Army's fancy name for a shovel }. And when I turned around the other four Soldiers had run off behind the trees and had left me for possible death.

So be careful when you are exploring old Military sites.

Thank you for conveying the beauty I found in these places growing up. Wonderful captures!
Nice work!

Candace you ROCK GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!
they have all those signs at the old military base near me (Caution--Blast Area) but my stepdad was stationed there, as was a neighbor, and they said about the only thing you'd find laying around was small caliber...rifle rounds, etc.
iwas looking for good direction to find the the entrance to the caves was looking to head up there to check them out, email me gqhydro@aol.com , sweet site
How do you get to the tweed mountain tunnels?
I attended Nyack College back in the late 70's/early 80's. My buddies and I went their occasionally. Cool place. I remember walking thru the collapsed tunnel and realizing that the rest of it could go at anytime. Someday, tho, somebody will have to 'develop' the area, and it will be all gone.
They will never develop that area. It is State Park Land. I am going for the 1st time ever tomorrow. Very excited. I heard of this place as a kid and was always curious. Never thought it was ever like this. I thought it was very very run down and actually underground. So I never bothered. Nor did I ever hear about it from other people. I went to TZ HS too.
How Do Yhu Guys Come Across Abandoned Places Like These...The Creepiness&Abandonment; Gives It A Good Look For Photoqraphy
I slept in the building at the end of that tunnel. (35 years ago) Still get the willies thinking about it! We used to walk thru them too. Good times!
There's city parkland in the woods in the area of our airport. (south end) The park district runs week-long overnight camp sessions in the summer and I got to go for a few days on a grade school mini camp. Anyhoo, the park gets closed every so often for ammo sweeps-the place used to be our WWII training camp. On the night hikes, we got to go over to the old bunkers back in the trees. (another cool thing-a geology walk along the river bluffs to find rocks with fossils, which I did.)
We partied at the tunnels quite alot back in the day ( early 80's). Those were fun times then! Now that I'm older I wish I was more into the history of what the tunnels were for. Im glad you posted the pictures as they have brought back alot of memories and will at least preserve some history of the place!
