A small chapel-like room was at the front entrance... it's full of HVAC and other machinery such as the "Sluicemaster 4" nowadays, but I suppose they had viewings in here before the hospital closed.

I just wanted to say I really love the story about the underground ballroom. It's written really well. You should write a collection of short stories or something, Motts, because you describe things in amazing detail. Also, your adventures are really exciting to read about.

I agree, the ballroom sounds like such an awesome and mysterious place, ive been obsessesed with it for days because it sounded so amazing. Are there any pictures of it on the web?! i really want to see it!, ive been searching for hours.

As far as I know, there are no references to the ballroom on the web. There was an article on Wikipedia but it was removed. However, there is a UK urbex forum with pictures....

yeah, there are pictures. google "uk urbex" and you'll find the forum bill's talking about - a few people have managed to get pics.

Hospitals don't have viewings. Funeral homes do.

I have seen isolated viewing rooms for families to view people who died of contagious diseases in two hospitals, and they were very close to the morgue. The glass and other structures might have been removed from this room here; modern medical facilities usually don't have religious symbols like this on display just for the staff as well.

I'm still not positive of course but these observations together with the biohazard morgue drawer seems to make sense.
