An Open Invite

Passing through a door from the viewing room, I enter the refrigerator room. There were two cooling units on either side, and each door led to a three-tier rack; there was room for a total of 30 bodies.

30? Wonder if that was the magical number before the funeral home was called.
The latches on the doors are magnificant
First thing I noticed too Kadee! Pretty heavy duty. Nice shot Motts!
I agree, wonderful latches.
Holy shit I love that
Nice!
Lovely, Motts...
Less and less will we see interior views in the future...The fact that so many rooms were built is AMAZING!
This IS sad. This is truth....
:')
By the way, if anyone doesn't see my point...go to a medical facility to see how we dispose of our loved ones.
More respect was given in intricate ways way back when .
ooooo.... pretty latches... :)
this picture is amazing.
those latches are wonderful.
i agree.
with bolt locks like that, they were afraid someone might get out
i want one of those on my bedroom door.... on the inside of course
the mortuary attendant at whittingham hospital, when i was there, used to keep the milk for his tea on a small shelf inside the body fridge, he often joked that they were the only people he could absolutely trust not to drink it when he was out!!!!!
WHAT WERE THEY HIDING?
HUH?
If the standards there were comparable to the typical medical care facilities for work houses in the late 19th century, 30 bodies could pile up in jig time. Health care for the poor in 19th century Britain was nearly non existant. The infirmaries existed to keep epidemics from spreading in the workhouse, and treat residents who were injured, so they could work.. Jack London wrote about the time he spent in a London workhouse. He intended to spen a month amongst the poor , he lasted less than a week. A british workhouse would make the worst mental hospital/state school in the US look like a Spa.
Those are some industrial strength latches. The angle of the photo is incredible........!
Chilling. Just...!
Total meat locker! Thirty corpse capacity? How many could the morgue at Pilgrim store? Was this the morgue for the entire community?
I believe this was used as a county morgue, which usually serves a fairly large area, and therefore much larger in capacity than one at a psychiatric hospital.
"Look at this fabulous showcase..."!
