Rib Spreader

Rib Spreader

As we made our way through the room, we found all sorts of really neat medical equipment in piles, including this rib spreader type of device (we placed it on top to take a photo). Underneath are assorted lab and medical items, such as a beaker holder, forceps, picks, and needle hardware. The orange tube and large steel syringe on the right might have been used to administer enemas or large volumes of fluid postmortem.

There is my toe nail clippers! I wondered where I had left them!
Right over my office is a small room full of old equipment like that.
Oh, my gosh. That makes me hope they had some early variety of autoclave back then......:-0....
....oh, wait a minute..."post mortem"...sorry.....
This picture makes me go "ouch!"
I like my ribs the way they are, thank you very much...
anyone for an enema? I already had a banana on the train I am good
Its amazing, no dust or dirt around. Is this place really abandoned?
Some buildings are definitely abandoned; this storage area was most likely disused, not quite the same...
Motts these are great ..I sure wish I could do what you do!! How interesting
ewwww! how creepy...
Probably shouldn't have looked at this while eating lunch, huh?
It hurts my ribs lol and when I think about using it, it hurts my hands. ;) Very cool picture, Mr Motts!
I fell all icky now!
ouch, but cool!
Rib spreader? *shudder*
These photos are so cool, though!
thats pure deathmetal stuff
i want to check this place out so bad!
Nice shot Motts! Creepy!
Yeah, that pic alone could be a deathmetal album cover!
We have a closet full of disused equipment like that, as well. One of the advantages of working in a facility that is 120 years old.. Never know when one is going to need a Perkin's Tractor or a Phrenologist's Caliper?
What would make it worse is if the utensils were never cleaned. By the way, ewww Joe!
Can you say EBAY!?
Just kidding guys, BUT I did see an Iron Lung on there once
I'm loving the forceps...
everythings looks pretty clean indeed... besides the rust ofcourse xD
The large metal syringe is actually used for flushing ears. Nothing sinister and still quite effective, even today. The large instrument described a rib spreader looks like it might actually be plaster cutters. These were the days before the little electric grinders they use these days.
Heh, I dont mean any offence to Motts or anyone else here. My old man is a GP and has been for about 40 years, he loves this site =)
ouch
omg
wouldn't like to have that poked around in me
Saw 6...
