Portraits

There was no date or caption on these photos; I have no clue as to who they were... they have large ornamental necklaces however, which might be a clue to their identities. Here's a closeup of the two women.

Update (3-2008): I have been e-mailed some history about the photographer:

"He was Alfred George BEESTON, born Ramsgate, Kent, in 1873. His parents were William George Beeston and Mary Ann Clark who had married in Bristol in 1872, moved to Ramsgate straight afterwards, where his parents were drapers. The family returned to the West Country in the 1880s, and ran a drapers shop in Clevedon, Somerset.

"He is first shown as a photographer on the 1901 census in Ross on Wye, Herefordshire, with his sister Nellie as his housekeeper. He married Beata Iles in London in 1905, and they settled to Ross. I know of only one child, a son born there in 1911, but there may have been others. His wife Beata died in Ross in 1916, and by the 1920s, he had moved to Cheltenham."

There's an embossed text at the bottom right of each photo, I guess it's Photo Studio's mark?
Yes, it appears so... "A.G. Beeston, Cheltenly"? The last few letters are very faded.
Some more of Big Ed's relatives?
The clothes look uniform..ish I wonder if they were photos of the staff?
All right - you read my mind!

Dave - in most of the pix I have from that era the female staff are wearing outfits that look more like what we would identify as a nurse uniform. I am going to guess these were taken in the 10s or 20s.
I always love looking at old photos. There's something fascinating about seeing someone's eyes peering back at you from accross the decades. ..
that woman on the right keeps looking at me....
oh my god your right, if you move your head back and fourth; she is following you. CREEPY!!!
Don't think it's 'Cheltenly', we haven't got one of those- maybe Cheltenham?
It does look like Cheltenham without the 'm'... maybe it was a sloppy / quick impression.
There really is something about the woman on the right. I just can't stop staring at her for some reason. It's kinda creepy...but really cool at the same time.
i agree with Joe, she does follow you!
I agree, the one on the right, those eyes. They just won't let you go.
dayhm! look at those clothes, beautiful pictures! i must admit, i dont think i could have resisted taking those with me....along with a few other things....
she does seem to hold your gaze, doesn't she? Motts, I can't pick a favorite pic here....
Were they patients or staff ? Hmmmm..............

Signed: An American Soldier stationed in Germany.
The portraits were definitely around the Edwardian era, World War 1. The other set of pictures were Victorian judging by the tea dresses the women were wearing
i gotta get a new monitor
*slaps self on the fingers*
I probably wouldn't have had the self-control to leave them there, where they belong...
I don't think those are large necklaces, I think it's trim on the dresses themselves, which would be in keeping with period these were taken. It just looks like a necklace, espcially in the photo on the right, because she is wearing something around her neck, but I think it's tucked into her dress. I don't see a chain at all in the photo on the left.
i guess im a creep but they would be in silver frames on my bedroom wall. the girl on the right is beautiful. the girl on the left is a little tori like, but i'll bet she was a beautiful person.
. . . .And there they are . . .
Just received some information about the photographer, updated above.
So cool that info has been found on these.
So often ......info is lost.
So often we wonder.....
i love old pics... they kinda make u wonder tho....
Is the lady on the right wearing a Salvation Army pin badge?
I love this! I was born in Bristol and moved to Kent (Ashford) then moved to Ramsgate (Thanket, Kent) when I met my now husband.
*Thanet!
incredible! :)
