what is that light over there? the exit or reflection of the light?
The pinpoint light in the center is the end of the tunnel, on the left is a glare from the flashlight on the wet walls.
Look's like humans spirit over there.
typical tunnel. Not so typical photograph. You have creeped me out again. Motts. Thank you! =]
THE TIME TUNNEL
That would be the worse night-mare for me to be stuck in a place like this and the lights go out!!
look at the bottom right hand side of the picture, looks like a human head print or something
Place is ill man... everyone should go... dont wear it out though keep the tweed tradition
I've been in this very spot. The tunnels are full of moisture, and there were even some collapsed tunnels. If you look at the ceilling just at the top of the picture you can see a sort of black mold growing. lovely.
how do u get there
me and my friends live in rockland and heard bout this so um bascially it was 4 girls in a dark tunnel while one friend stood on top n said sh eheard foot steps
i have been there there is a hoomless man that lives there named jerry
I just got back from these tunnels. I had been there before but have never gone during the day until now. It's a lot less creepy when the suns out, but creepy regardless. Being there just makes you want to see what it all looked like when it was actually being used. I highly recommend making a visit.
i heard that the mafia dumps dead bodies here -- i don't live very far from here
Hall of horrors - nice shot...........
I have heard that there are snakes in the tunnels. Has anyone ever seen any snakes in the tunnels?
These kids went to those tunnels....not all of them made it out.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTIcXhZptE4
great place to get high
I used to go there 30 years ago and get high, drink a few beers and just be stupid with my friends, but back then there was no graffiti on the walls, but it still looked just as creepy. There also used to be a place near by where they used to have missile silos Yes NUKES. There was a big water tower there and huge slabs of cement where they covered the silos up. They moved them to an area not too far away up there where there is some secret military complex.
Funny thing is I can't seem to find any of it on Google Earth Hmmmmmm
Anyway it was really kewl to come across this after so many years and to see it is still a popular out of the way place.
I remember driving past the old missile site on the way here - look for
Look for . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Agh,

Look for 'Nike Rd' on the map, it's pretty close. It seemed like some of the buildings were being lived in.
Chipy-

IT'S THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL!
So, for what ever reason, most of my comment was not posted. Any how, I grew up on the "mountain" as we called it. I've camped at the tunnels 9 or 10 times over the years starting in 1974. WE had anual parties there while in high school, normally starting on a friday, and ending on sunday. You can also see a good deal of Bluefields on Google Earth

The missile base did not have Nukes as Danunder stated. It was a Nike base, surface to air missiles meant to shoot down enemy bombers. It was in use from 55 to 74, and there were no missiles on top of the mountain. The visable base on top was where three radar screens were set up and inclosed in what looked like giant golf balls.
The launch area was off RT 303, and you could see the bunkers off to your left on the road into the 303 drive in. Had an older friend that was stationed at the Nike base. He was there when they shut down, and it was left in a state that it could be refitted in a matter of a day or two. That's why on section of the base was fenced and had a care taker.

You can clearly see the fence around the highest elevation of the mountain, with the gate at the road open with Google Earth. Just north, you'll find Bluefields.

The water tower Danunder spoke of is just north of the location given. The round slabs are south of it near the last set of buildings.
i use to play man hunt at tweed
In 1936 and 1937 my brother James, 7, and myself lived in New York City. Those two summers we went upstate at a boys camp, Camp Bluefields where the sadistic adult counselors repeatedly forced us into those tunnels for the entire length of the structure. Naturally, all the kids were in hysteria as we immersed into daylight. Talk about child abuse!

Back in the 30's when we went through, I don't recall any graffiti on the walls or litter on the floor.
