Great photo! I can almost smell it... I'm not usually a big fan of angled shots like this, but you have a way of making it a compelling perspective.
Holy moly! Absolutely stunning in its decay.
I love this shot!!
Great shot! That water looks fairly black....but, right above the blue, square, holey floating thing, I spy a giant "spider" in the water...
Often you see abandoned pools that have been drained or have jsut dried up over the years. It must have been eerie to look at ta pool that was still full of water...I wouldn't hang out there long. I dont trust water I cant see the bottom of.
I know what lives in nasty dark water that you can't see to the bottom of. =8-o
wouldnt want to fall in that
WOWZERS...great picture
Whoa.
It reminds me of the pool in that book "The Creeprs"
anyone wanna go for a swim?
ewwwwwwwwww haha, love this shot
Wow. One of my worst nightmares is getting stuck in dark, thick, black opaque water that has no bottom. Always imagine that something will grab my feet from below.......or bite.....(shudder).Creeps me out.......:-0.. WHY WHY WHY do they not drain these things?....(unless it's just years of rain)...
Beach blanket bingo.....thats the name of the game
A great breeding ground for mosquitos and EEE. Steer clear of this place during dusk and night.

But other than that, CANNON BALL!!!!
Is weird you cant see the bottom and its still got water in it, dont often see that. Again in its day it would have looked amazing
It kinda reminds me of that movie Ghost Ship. I love the mural on the wall, they really tried to brighten the place up. It's more warm and inviting than cold and sterile.

Ah ha, I found the spider!
i have to give you credit for being able to go near that pool without getting freaked out like i would.
that thing is damn creepy...
I have to say, this place seemed a bit nicer than many of the other asylums I've seen on this sight. I mean it's a big pool and the art on the walls is nice and bright.
Great shot! I love it!
if you look closer you will see it's not a spider, but a reflection of the plants painted on the wall. Great picture though!
hey little johnny! wanna earn 5 bucks...
Wonderful shot, Motts.
NAZ-TEH!
I'm late for swim team practice!
THIS IS ACTUALLY ALL THATS LEFT OF ATLANTAS......
Bilious...
Wow, creepy, nasty looking pool...but I love the mural!
Hah the old abandoned mental hospital out where I used to live has a holden just swimming around in the pool
AAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! It stinks! *pugs nose before passing out*
I just hope they let the puppy out of that cage...

Awesome shot!!
An intriguing thing about this pool is that the water level appears not to have changed for a very very long time - the tiles above the water are perfectly clean. I've seen this pool on other Urbex sites (pictures taken several years before this one), and it's exactly the same, which is weird - the water doesn't appear to be evaporating... so how did it get to that level? Why'd they only drain half of it (if drain they did)? Especially since it would appear that the metal ladders have been taken out (I assume that, since there doesn't appear to be any form of exit from the pool on any of the photos I've seen).
I wonder how lont that waters been there and how deep it is. I also wonder what growing in there
ok this one reminds meof the movie Ghost Ship
I used to work here and we used to swim in this pool on nightshift in the dark with just the pool lights on!
the water is fine! come on in!
That sure looks a lot like a skylight above the moved ceiling tiles over the center of the pool. Anyone know if that was the case? Seems crazy to cosmetically cover a skylight in a pool area though.
All that is missing in that pool is one pivital piece, A white toilet seat floating there too!
this one makes me dizzy

and grosses me out- i love it!
There's a certain beauty that can only be captivated in decay. I'm not quite sure what it is, but it's a very present element in this picture.
I too used to swim in here at night it was a great place to chill out for the nurses John 1972-1974
I suppose they just left it full? That's odd... maybe there was rainwater leakage...
How deep is it? Did it not have a shallow end?
The mural is very nice, except the snake in the tree. I have vivid nightmares of an in-ground pool that is stagnant, green with alea, and black rancid water. I feel myself falling into the inky blackness of the water. Thank God I wake up around then. We used to have an in-ground pool when I was a teen in 1975, and the water would become green, turtles would swim in there, and an alligator would wander in there. I have a fear of water where I cannot see the bottom. Paranoia, if you please.
i was in there the other week and my mate was not far behind me recording on his phone he walked up the steps next to the pool and then you here me letting one rip .... it stunk aswell check out our vids on youtube .ie cherry knowles 1 of 8.
2 of 8 and so on
My friends mother used to work in the hospital.
she said many people died in this pool.
They used to drown eachother.
when we visited here i missed looking into the showers.
Im going back tonight. to see all the parts i missed.
"Parts" - you mean body parts of all the people who used to drown each other? =8-o
HA!! Thanks Lynne... Now I have to wipe Coke off my monitor.
the reflections bouncing onto the end wall and the celing of of the water is really cool.
Wow.This reminds me of an old swimming hall that I visited in Leipzig Germany about 10 years ago befor it was demolished. It had not been in use for many years and looked like this. The best thing was that it hade two floors with swimming pools.Very rare. Hope to find some old building were I live.
I remember taking East 6 patients to swim in the pool, it was actually a nice pool when it was in use. staff could use it out of hours, but I can't remember anyone using it on night shift.
i drained the pool competely over 12 years ago as part of my employment-still work there
water in pool is rain water-will not drain due to vandals blocking drain
pool has shallow and deep end-was also heated,as was pool area
I love the way old pools freak me out, and I dont know why I like it but I do................... I kinda wana swim in there........??
one flew over the cuckoo,s nest
Weird - i used to go swimming there when I was a kid
used to work there
those paintings are beautiful
Let's swim!
my mam elsie watson worked there for about 25 years or more and she used to swim in the pool after a night shift and it was a lovley pool.... i used to go to the summer fairs with her on her ward and it was a fantastic bulding shame its been left to decay like this....
we used to swim in this pool every Saturday morning when I was a kid - my Dad worked at Cherry on the maintaince I can remember it being lovely and warm and it wasn't very deep I would have only been about 10 and could stand up in it. I also remeber going to summer fairs there too i particularly remmeber the coconut shy for some reason!
Cherry Knowles was a wonderfull building with fantastic architecture I love looking at these photos but it so sad to see how it's been left to decay.
I used to go in that pool on my lunch brake in the early eighties, and sometimes on a Saturday.
It was a great place to work, what a shame it is now a ruin.
The infamous pool! It's so amazing when there are pool areas inside of old asylums. Great shot!
This is soooo like the pool in ghost ship the waters the wrong coler though. Should be red with bodies floating. Don't you just love that bit where they show waht actually happened all those years ago.... Can anyone remember the name of the ship and the name of the little girl I really want to know what the ship is called though the name is unreadable I also want to know the name of the italien singer and was she involved in the plot to get the gold? Well I'm going on a bit to much about the ghost ship now. I will watch it in a minuet though I want to see If I can figure out the name
Looks like some one was playing "Does It Float?' with out David Letterman
me and my friends took a acid and had a trip and spent time in CK - it was pretty amazing - but freaky!
I'm with Jen. This reminds me a lot of the movie Ghost Ship. Old pools with nasty water...blech.
I agree with Tenbobo, I don`t remember anyone swimming after the pool closed and certainly not on nights. The staffing levels were so poor who would have been on the wards and breaks were taken on the wards.
I don`t remember anyone drowning there either nor any rumours about attempted drowning, supervision was good whilst patients were swimming.
Creepy. I like the mural on the wall though. But the pool itself looks like part of a horror movie haha.
There were sometimes incidents with patients in the pool, particularly where they could be quite disturbed by paranoia or delusions/hallucinations, but I've no recollection of anyone drowning or anyone attempting to drown themselves, accidentally or otherwise.
how much would someone have to pay you to do a lap in that nasty liquid?
There could be ground water welling up through the pool by osmosis... along with the rain water. That could keep the level constant despite dry spells.
My dad worked there for 37 years and has fond memories of this hospital. He got very emotional when I showed him pictures of inside the old building seen here after some mindless youths have desicrated it like that. Also, he never had any paranormal experiences.
A nurse taught me to swim in that pool when i was 8 yrs old... went there every saturday morning.. then at 18 joined the nursing staff.. fab place to work.. so sad that it's all gone now.
