This is kind of a creepy looking pic! The way the banister's all jagged and kind of thwanged off to the side at the end there make it look kind of like a creepy little stairway to nowhere. But the ceiling sure is pretty! =)
And the semi-circular window above the doorway... That's pretty, too. That doorway's kind of wierd, too, no that I really look at it. There's only one door... Right in the middle of the opening... wierd.
i bet they had a in and out and you can see on the left side its like a different landing to some stairs, it does look odd the door is not in line with the arch.
its probably just missing its 2 other doors.
And the ivy, reaching in...wating to grab who or whatever walks by.......
A Palladian window at the end of a long hall. They didn't spare any money building this place.
on the subject of the door at the end...i guess there are 2 missing....but the bit in the middle is offset. is that odd...or am i being picky?
love the glass above the doorway
The whole stairway with the banister looks out of place to me...like it had originally been in another part of the building, and lifted up and dropped there!
No, Tommeh, not picky at all - it's very odd. That door is WAY off center.
Oh, what a beautiful shot! Banister is almost like from Tim burtons vincent:) And there is also little plant creeping in. Like it.
The door appears off center because a widened space was needed for those in wheelchairs (hence the ramp). There probably was an identical door at the right of the center one and a larger one to the left.
Didn't this corridor lead to the Blind unit?.
Who needs the stair master when you have a dumped off banister.
that ramp leads to the morge
i think the ramp leads to the old mortuary!
iirc, this ramp leads up to the main coridor from the langdale unit. a few pictures back theres another view from the other side of the doors at the top(behind the arched door/window frame. the mortuary when i was at whittingham was in a seperate building with 2 small chapels of rest, one r/c and one c of e, and a big fridge for the bodies. in the centre was a big stone lined room with a post mortem theatre. after that was closed and demolished, they converted the rooms that used to house the hospital coblker, who in times gone by, made shoes and boot and also surgical built up shoes and clogs for staff and patients alike.
any 1 got pics of the mortary?

ne 1 found the padded sell
Nah its a door to the left thats open, and maybe the right one was removed, or just never there.
remember doing my work placement here, upsetting to see such a magnificent buliding rotting away when it could be put to such good use, why have avondale when patients could have continued to have lovely surroundings like at whittingham????????????? and probably got better sooner as a result
black and white photos are much better and they stand out more and make it look more old and creepy for the place it is and i think from last time i saw it it has realy changed and i hope that it get more arty for more picturs in the futer
ahaha jokee ur all sad ma t a photo for god sakes get a lifee !!!!
