I love this picture. Everything looks so old, but I can imagine when it was all still new.
That decoration in the front, looks like the faux bead work on some older furniture. I absolutely love the crown. Just amazing!
Motts~You had pointed out the fact that the cript had a 3 leaf clover design for a window..
This crown also bears leaves with 3 leaves to some of them.
I wonder if that why the window is that shape?
Motts,
are there names and dates listed anywhere in the crypt?
The plaques on the coffins marked the name, dates, and title of the deceased, although they were difficult to photograph...

Love these photos. I sure hope the caretaker watches this place so there's no vandalism!
Beautiful, Just beautiful. The person who made it must be very proud. I hope that the person who wore it apprediated it . Ya know these were real people, just like you and I. They worked, slept, ate and had lives. Thats the way I look at this . Some day it,s gona be us . I hope the future generations have the same respect that you do for these places.
Nevermore, you make me smile. Thank you.
Great pic, nice shadows
Is the crown copper? It looks like it has a greenish tint to it.
How very fortunate for you, and us, that no one else had discovered this rare gem and stolen that crown. Too many grave robbers these days. Simply Beautiful...
I cant beleive it is still not stolen yet!
I must say this is one of my favorite shots you've taken old boy.
Wow, I can't believe no one has stolen those things yet. What a beautiful place.
the crown is, infact, a coronet. the motif is a strawberry leaf which shows that the coffin belongs to an english duke. the fact that the window is a trefoil or a clover leaf is, i would guess, purely coincidental as it is a common gothic ecclesiastical motif. i would love to visit this place!
If I may add that three leaves, even so in a shamrock are the representation of the Holy Trinity.
Great stuff
The "crown" is actually a coronet, and because he has eight strawberry leafs, it signifies the rank of earl. The specific features of different ranks of nobility are very particularly expressed in the varying coronets' design. Therefore, it is highly likely that there is an English Earl buried within this crypt.
With all respect to Dr. Riley, 8 large strawberry leaves signifies a duke. An earl's coronet would have 8 small strawberry leaves and 8 pearls.
