Cloth

Cloth

A very deteriorated cloth or wrapping still clings to this casket; the memorial plaque and crown remain up top.

Just goes to show...no matter how important you may be eventually you will be forgotten....
ok Sian that was REALLY depressing -_- ack. what a sad thought... ><
That was depressing. What I would like to think is someone cared enough to drape what was an exquisitely ornate cloth.
So, they did use cloth!
That's really different!
No matter how depressing it may sound, no matter how you try to spin it...I have to agree with Sian...You can't take it with you, etc., etc...
What a pic THERE, Motts!!!
Really does bring sadness to see some thing that was meant to bring prestige even in death so deteriorated and forgotten. So I gotta agree with Tony and Sian, eventually your not even a memory anymore- ah how sad.
Sain... so true :(

Motts, did it appear as though this place had been visited recently? Like flowers etc..
No, it looked as if no one had been inside for many years, and the exterior was very unkempt.
I cant believe all of this is still intact, and hasn't been stolen!
So sad. So Loved. My feelings are that is to keep the person warm in the winter. My mother (when she was alive) always put a grave blanket on my fathers grave. It was made of evergreens and flowers ect. The purpose was warmth. That,s the feeling I get from this photo.
So sad
If i was a king i think i'd want my crown in the coffin with me.
So sad.... Makes me wonder who is in charge of keeping these ground, and why they dont!
Sians statement wasn't sad, itjust wants me to enjoy life more while I have it.
I wish that there were photographs of the pharoh's tombs before they were pilaged. You need to invest in a time machine Motts!
When my husband died in 2001, he had this gold watch, worth lots money, and his sisters wanted the watch to be buried with him, and I agreed, and then when the coffin was closed and we all went home before the funeral, I am sure one of the funeral attendants may have got that watch. Many times I wish I had defied my inlaws and kept that watch for memory.
That be old cloth.

My oldest brother (well, actually, both brothers)and I both like cemeteries.IT's like the time we were standing in Greenmount (my favorite;I want to be intered there;better start preparing) and I made the obvious remark "Why do people go to these great lengths?" His reply : " Well, no one WANTS to be forgotten"
Just a thought.......................................
P.S. (as large and interesting Greenmount is ,and besides being my fav, it has but a single small mausoleum at the front entrance drive)
Almost looks like the cloth is going to start crawling at any moment & try to reassemble itself - Creepy with a capital C
Why is there normally a crown on the casket?
Çok ilgimi çekti bu yer. Yerinde gezmeyi isterdim...
