Carved Figure

Carved Figure

This interesting carving adorns the top of the gatehouse entrance; some believe it to be of King Edward I.

Yes, this had to be him - I believe he was the only English king to sit on the throne who was born without a head.
**spits coffee all over**
awww what happened to your little head?
Yes, this had to be him - I believe he was the only English king to sit on the throne who was born without a head.

According to history books he ruled that way.
The king who had these castles built is the one depicted in Braveheart(virtually nothing in that movie actually happened, the only thing correct was basically people's names)
why?
Nice shot Motts...I love the craftsmenship. the flowing of the arch, the incasement of the figure. and its how old??? People dont build things of beauty like this anymore. Everyones just worried about getting it done and if it looks like crap oh well they cant see it from where they live...so why care...
Love the pictures thanks a ton.
Humor in history...lol. Great shot again, and thanks for the closeup of this statue thing. It's cool.

Would the head have been removed after, or would it have built that way? Wouldn't such an insult make you lose your life?
I might have a coment if i could breath!!!!!!!!
I realy do know how to spell, but I cant breath! thanx Motts
Look at that masonery, just awsome. Did anybody check out the weeds growing on the top?? Does anybody know exactly what kind of arch that is??
this looks like the aby by my house in France
this is alsome!!
Well.. if that is him then it is PERFECT!
Do you mean Edward "The Longshanks." but headless and armless?
Thanks Lynne, I'm sure my tech lead will love the reason I need a new keyboard, mouse, and monitor is because I spit coffee on the whole setup and I'm pretty sure it's going to die as soon as I'm done typing =P

Sam, the head would have been removed (if in fact it didn't fall off, or become target practice like the Shinx's nose did) well after the castle was built, or somewhat built, as it was not completed. Chances are though, it fell off.
good thing i didnt have anything in my mouth or id need a new laptop. lmao, thats too funny
Funny, from what I remember of English history, only the queens got beheaded
