Entrance

The ruins of Denbigh Castle loomed on the horizon... since I've never seen an actual European castle before, I was quite interested in it. Come to think of it, this might've been the only legal attraction I visited in Europe!

The remains of this structure were built in 1282 under the reign of King Edward I. It has been said the castle was never quite completed, and was abandoned by Earl Henry in 1308 after his son, Edward, fell to his death in the castle well. Ownership passed through many hands thereafter, and sometime after 1646, after the restoration of King Charles II, the castle fell into decay and ruin.

Thank you!!!!!

Great start!
Breathless and just speechless....
I Love Castles, I have always been intriqued by this type of architecture. In my next life I hope to tour every castle on this planet.
Absolutely fabulous!
Only you could visit a tourist attaction and make it into something else...
Outstanding first shot.
What a great beginning to this one Motts, I love castle ruins.
Very cvool, Motts. I have to wonder what that statue is in the frame above the arch...
Incredible shot!
So when does the Most Haunted crew show up?
Awesome, just awesome
Wow, I can only imagine what this structure looked like back when it was first built. Wonderful shot!!
I thought you had left us, Mr. Motts. This picture alone made the wait worth it.
I Love that show! MOST HAUNTED!
yay,i live just down the road from here. The plan to build private homes on the hospital site has currently been revoked by the local council.Did you see nearby conway castle Mr Motts?it's much more impressive as it's pretty much complete with its 21 tower town walls with the nearly 800 year old castle within. One of the town walls even has cannon fire scars from the civil war,the last time the castle saw battle. This place has more castles per square mile than anywhere in the world apparently.
Incredible!

~ And thank you Motts for all the info. on this beautiful place!
Are the holes in the walls possibly from cannon fire too? Did you find any info an that?
Maybe I should rephrase my question...
I can see the windows in the walls, but some look much larger, as if they had been hit by cannon fire or something?
just curious.
Some of the the windows are more mis-shapen and some walls more jagged because the smooth outer layer of granite has been removed or fell off.
Amazing shot, please contact a gallery Motts! Please! You shouldn't sell yourself short, you have such an amazing talent!
Oh wow, Mr. Motts! This is such a wonderful shot. It seems to surreal!
Thanks luminous star! I love hearing the history of all of these wonderful places.
So glad Motts and others are keeping them alive!

1282, that's an old freakin structure.
Thanks for the new pics Mr. Motts!! Ed from Oregon
Ah ouais putain ca gere ! ^^
luminous star, I didn't get to visit any more castles as we were majorly pressed for time... I figured the castles weren't going anywhere soon, but I know the asylums are in danger of being lost each day.
As usual your shots are just gorgeous Motts. Keep on rocking!
That's a simply stunning shot...The way the old building is set against the color of the sky is gorgeous...seriously.
I've seen this shot somewhere before. Maybe I've been reincarnated. Yeah, that's it. I was the Queen, now I remember, I'ts all coming back to me.
fantastic
awesome
It still has it's regality, even if it has no roof.
That show Most Haunted is a fricken fake show. Every show they have some gets possest, seeing something, and screaming when they got touched. Ghost Hunters is 100% real.

Also when I went to Rolling Hills, which is a haunted place that was a home for the insane, old folks home, and a orpah home. I was walking down the hall I didn't get touched. I was like, "what was that?" And I saw a Nurse walking down the hall. I didn't scream and run, I went after it! Motts you should check Rolling Hills. They have a website and do Ghost hunts.
Accually I did get touched. It was jusy a typo. It was really freaky.
I love castles <3 They're so fascinating.
I lived opposite Denbigh Castle for 12 glorious years and was greeted with this wonderful sight when I looked out of my bedroom window each morning.
Dawne....wow!
I LOVE castles! Can't wait to check these pictures out!
Hi, I am an illustrator born and bred in Denbigh. You have some great photographs here, especially the ones of the Hospital. When did you go there? There has been a programme shot there in 2008, it was a 'most haunted ' week long special and about a week after they had finished filming there was a massive fire there, spooky or what?
