I really like this...
Nice shot and subject.
Now THAT is cool.
If there's anything I like more than bricks, it's rust. Thanks for this shot!
This reminds me of my old portable '45 record player from the mid 60's. Beatles, anyone?
Great shot.
I would love to restore this
It makes you wonder what the records were that were put on it, and what the very last song was that it ever played.
Since the ballroom has a disco ball hanging, I'd hate to think what the last song was. Bee Gees? Naw, these folks suffered enough.
Lets play a little Black Sabbath. Oh no, it is rusted and it doesn't work. Oh well.

JUST A LITTLE REMINDER: DARKNESS IS YOUR FRIEND.

Rock on People.
"Did you know that Decca turned the Beatles down, in 1962!"

Line from a song in a fab musical set in the mid 60's called A Slice of Saturday Night! *I played the lead part in it of the club owner, great fun!*
am I crazy, or does that look quite small for a record to fit on? maybe it was a newer version with the smaller records or something?
Looks like it would play 33's and 45's
wow frozen in time.far from the mp3 or disc player
Decca made 78's too -- they are slightly bigger than 45s, and rigid. It was a really popular company in the early part of the 20th century, 30s and 40s, I think, were their heyday.
*pulls out an engagement ring for Motts, so he can marry me*
-attacks Jessica and ties her to the pole inside a closet, stealing the ring and plans on marrying Motts-
i bet it still works...
I bet you're right.
how scary it still there
Now tell me, who really needs an IPod?
My grandmother used to press records at Decca. I still have her collection of 78 albums of theirs from the 1940s and 45s through the 1960s. I didn't know they made players too.
well, we used CD's today
i love the contrast and the saturation is amazing...lighting is amazing and the forground is great!!
It is a great contrast to see this with all the technology there is today. Remember tape players anybody?
I rather think that the record player pictured was called the non-sync.I the cinema this type of unit was used to play 78 r.p.m. records during the interval etc.The music played was not in sync with the film being shown, the film sound would,on this installation,be printed on the film in the form of an optical soundtrack.
WE HAVE HAVE JUST LIKE IT, IT BELONGED TO MY WIFE GRANDFATHER, WE PLAY CHRISTMAS 45'S THAT WE HAVE
IM SORRY WE HAVE ONE IS WHAT I MEANT TO SAY
Last record played, DEVO, Jocko-Homo
"Are we not men? We are Devo"
Thats still there up in the projetor room :) x
I've got one just like this (but in perfect nick)! I'll make sure it never meets the same fate as the one in the photo.
"hmm what shall we listen to" very cool pic

i have one jonny
This was in a small room right?
Decca were a popular radio and record manufacturer throughout the 1960s, as well as the being a hugely successful record label - The Rolling Stones were on Decca in the UK
This looks like a 78 rpm record player, look at the small spindle - also the tone arm looks like the Cobra type that Zenith manufactured (and supplied other companies with) which would date this unit from the late 40's on. The Cobra name came from the fact that the tone arm sort of resembled a snake, they would even paint little black dots where the eyes would be. I had several of these and they did sound great for playing 78s.
What songs did that thing play?
Great find!
