Easily my favourite. Reminds me of a Magritte painting, "The Voice of Silence," I believe it's called.
I wonder if this door got used very much...... the paint on the lock is hardly touched and you'd think if a key was being used a lot, there would be paint scratched off, no?

Very cool shot Motts!
very Silence of the Lambs
Jude, or it was painted right before this section was closed
Oh wow, thats a neat little lock thing. I've never seen one like that. Very cool.
In my country, Poland "a home with handle-less door" is a synonym for asylum, so it's realy meaningful photo for me
Now that is interesting - thanks!
Wow. That's so cool (being Polish myself). Thanks for sharing that!
a lock and no handle? yup scares the hell outta me!
Great. My front door has no handle. o.O Fun stuff.
Motts, I think it's awesome that you took a picture of this... it's funny how sometimes it's the little things that make a big impression on your mind.
And thanks for that bit of info, Nif... very interesting.
The B&W movie "The Glass Key". Mr. Motts You bring out the BEST in all of us.
You sir are a TREASURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't want to be the dumb one here, but how do you open the door after you unlock it?
that's really great if you lock yourself in.
Safe from intruders, but not from Peeping Toms!
I believe the answer to the "how do you open it question would logically be that the doors are weighted or hung a certain way as to alow it to swing easily once unlocked or that since a skeleton key was used mabey a slight pull would do the trick. I find it interesting that the lock cover has 6 flathead screws in it and if removed the inner workings of the lock would be exposed.
in my house we have skelton locks, and when you take the lock plate off all you ca see is the wood of the door, the lock mechanism is completly incased in a metal case that is then incased within the door. As foe how would you open it, I would guess that you would leave the key in and pull.
wow.
very depressing.

maybe im looking too deep into it, but it kind of makes me feel what the patients felt.

like they were locked inside a room with no handle.

really sad...
D:
im a nurse and to some degree or another all hospitals are insane asylums,
