Wierd... Why would they paint the borads like that? If you abandone a place, why spend time on painting the boards on the windows?
weird... maybe it makes them look occupied from a distance? deters vandals? didn't work...
wow, someone really put effort into that.
Maybe they were doing some filming for a movie or TV round here.
See in this shot, the exterior reminds me of the house in De Niro film, Hide and Seek
why are the boards painted again?
Originally the boards are painted like that so that they dont LOOK abandoned, as an attempt to keep the kids from going in and tearing the place up :)
I do not know what's the climate like over there, but my in some parts of my country people have special boards for heavy winter conditions. Especially for now storms? Could these boards be used for something like that and the owner just installed them on windows rather than banging nails?
Yeah, the painted window shades were some genius' idea to make the houses look occupied. Seems to have backfired - just added to the weird factor, which attracted even more visitors. Ooops.
from what ive gathered from different sites, the shades were suposeidly painted on each and every window...
Ok, that creeps me out.
Why are the boards infamous Mr. Motts
The boards on the windows are painted black with shades painted on them, to look like the window isn't boarded up.
I remember back in '99 or so when my best friend first told me about that place and how eerie it was that the windows were painted black and had fake white "shade cords" on them. I was living up in Canada @ the time, and he had to take pics of the houses and send them to me
Thats kinda creepy...
Those boards creep me the fuck out. I mean, seriously. Who does that? Scary...
Except for the boards being painted like that, a very mid-western Kansas feel to it.

And the boards are painted like that BECAUSE , uh, I uh ,er.......forget.
Huuuuh.... you made it Motts!... glad you're finally out of there!!!... but still anything can happen... so run now!!!!
hmmmm that is really interesting
Will I think that the people that live hear were trying to do some really bad things in that house. Because you don't see that everyday, now do ya? CRAZY PEOPLE!!!
Oh jesus christ!
Satan lives here....I sense it.
hi happy to be here
winsome answers i like it
Well in ny it was done to whole buildings when they were abandoned to make it look less abandoned ! I mean you could still tell but wasnt an eyessore
someone here got carried away with the painting and decided the window sill should be painted black too
oh man, that's weird lol
Cool ! trompe l'oeil !
