Moving into the wards; this shot looks over only a part of the complex.

That is an incredible tower. I can picture the stairs heading upward past each window. This tower was meant to be there for a long time.
Great shot. I love how tiny the windows seem compared to the size of the tower.
This is a beautiful shot Mr. Motts, that tower is very stately.
I love looking out over that place...its like an actual small village or something. thats a great picture to have gotten.
I agree with everyone....Gorgeous shot.......What was this tower used for?
To me, all that's missing is the castle. You can almost imagine archers in the windows.

The tower was a water tower, it housed lage tanks of water that would be able to supply the hospital :)
GREAT SHOT! Reminds me of a sunny day on good ole Enland...
Ahhhh Such a refreshing shot from all the decay. And you timed it perfectly. I'ts almost like a breathing point. U ARE THE MAN!!!!
This tower reminded me of the Beaumont Tower at Michigan State University

I'll try to get some photos of it sometime and toss them on the forums.
I think that most of the folk who put comment here need to remember the history of this place and the fine work it did for those poor ill folk who often spent a lot of their lives here.
It should never have been allowed to close and could well have been used for a new hospital or prison as the one in the grounds nearby.
Maybe cash for building work and development had something to do with it!
True Joe! They claim Hellnigly hospital has no use any more, by building new houses would increase the wealth of the town. No chance this building I think is the only wealth in the town, it is part of our history.
It would be more beneficial if it they restored some of it, allowing it to be safe for people to explore the site (as an exhibition) it would be ideal! Anyway that is my opinion!
Hey Guys - I`m off to buy some rooftiles there from the demolition co. How cool is that to repair your roof with historic asylum tiles . Good news is they aren`t demolishing ALL of the complex. ! the part @ the East end is being kept and re furbished - the 3 storey part with the conservatory running along it . Won`t start for 2 years but it will be awesome
